Ford is investing over 50 billion to build state-of-the art manufacturing facilities in US and Eu to manufacture an exciting portfolio of EV vehicles. State of the art technologies and processes for Battery cell, arrays and packs form a core of our competitive leadership strategy. Working with strong team of battery cell technology partners we are building brand-new mega manufacturing facilities and will leverage Ford’s 100+years of automobile manufacturing expertise and will be among the largest cell manufacturing campuses in U.S. Like the iconic Rouge complex in Michigan did a century earlier. Ford has selected to partner with global partners for their Battery expertise, these facilities under construction now and others in time will usher in a new era for American manufacturing.

In this position…

As a Battery Manufacturing Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing state-of-the-art battery manufacturing processes, from electrode production to cell and module assembly, and launching new facilities. This role involves leading simultaneous engineering efforts to ensure manufacturability for new products, collaborating with OEMs and technology partners on equipment design, and developing robust quality methods like PFMEA. Furthermore, you will define assembly system solutions, establish performance targets, manage equipment acceptance and installation, and provide critical support to plant operations by creating detailed documentation and utilizing virtual tools for process optimization.

You'll have...

Engineering degree (Master’s preferred)  Understanding/experience of overall manufacturing processes (Battery preferred) and manufacturing business acumen. minimum 2+ years on major projectsExperience Implementing large scale Projects as a manufacturing engineer or project manager on new specialized manufacturing lines  Experience with Simulation tools, Digital methods: AutoCad / Siemens PLM etc. developing layouts in AutoCAD, mechanical design stack up understanding highly desirable.Exemplary verbal and written communication skillsTravel and mobility with short term relocation / ability to work remote is key.

What you'll do...

Develop manufacturing process: lead, engineer line layouts and Implement the Battery Manufacturing processes and launch manufacturing facilities. Processes specific to electrode (mixing, coat, press, slit), Cell Assembly (notch, dry, stack, weld, package), Formation, and Module Assembly  Lead simultaneous engineering with Product, Purchasing and Suppliers to deliver manufacturing feasibility:  Drive design for manufacturability for new Cell, Module and Battery Pack products.  Work closely with OEM’s in the design of manufacturing equipment, process and toolingCollaborate with automation and other technology partners to develop competitive solutions for productivity Understand and own ROI.Lead development of Quality methods including process failure mode and analysis (PFMEA), associated gauging requirements and inspection methods. Deliver a Control plan per the quality strategy.Develop Assembly system solutions including workstation requirements (work content, automated versus manual, buffering strategy, redundancy requirements, etc.)Define Cycle time / OEE and other performance target with industrial engineering to develop optimal operating and labor strategies.  Define equipment acceptance criteria including duration, target results, and quality inspection plan.Manage schedule and budget.Track and own change management to deliver Quality / Cost and TimingLead equipment installation and coordinate with building and utilities teamLead on site equipment buyoff per acceptance proceduresSupport plant operations to achieve System performance objectives OEE, Cycle time / JPH et allEnable successful process and system transition to plant operations.  Create detailed Manufacturing Instructions to document new processes.Provide relevant process documentation (drawings, PM plans, spare parts, training manuals etc.)Create and document detailed Manufacturing process know for new technologies and methods.Provide plant assistance to support launch requests and extraordinary needs w/existing cell suppliers.Work with virtual tools to develop equipment and line simulation, in conjunction with OEMs.
