Role description:
The Batch and Furnace Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the furnace and batch mixing facilities under the direction of the Batch and Furnace Manager. This role is responsible in the organization and direction of the Batch and Furnace department ensuring consistent quality glass through the most efficient use of energy and equipment.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and direct department employees Perform administrative duties necessary for the effective management of the department including the selection and development of employees, salary and budget administration, labor relations cost control, and monitoring of department performance Maintain timely and accurate reporting Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment consistent with company’s policies and procedures while striving for zero accidents Assist with the development and training of standard operating procedures, polices, and quality standards utilized in glass melting, refining and batch, and cullet operations Monitor and direct furnace operation to maintain batch melt quality in conjunction with allowable emissions Assist the environmental compliance department in the collection and reporting of emissions data and responding to regulatory agency requests Order raw material and tracks raw material shipments Provide back-up support during absences of the Batch and Furnace Manager Comply with environmental and food safety standards as set forth in plant policies and programs within the departmental responsibilities
Minimum skills / qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Previous exposure to furnace operations and large-scale melting operations Must be able to work occasionally on weekends and holidays Must be able to be on-call in case of furnace issues at the plant Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Must be able to travel up to 10%
Preferred skills / qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field Previous supervisory experience in a union environment Prior experience with raw material manufacturing Prior experience in a glass manufacturing environmentAbout Ardagh Group
