With a culture built on integrity, innovation, and collaboration, Foss Maritime remains a trusted leader in the maritime industry. **Job Overview:** The **Barge Supervisor** oversees all phases of ore concentrate discharge operations from barges to bulk carriers. This role involves managing a crew, operating discharge systems, maintaining communication with ship personnel and shore-based teams, and ensuring safety and environmental compliance. The Barge Supervisor works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor for equipment needs and reports to the Project Manager on operational matters. **What the job entails:** + **Supervise Crew:** Manage loader operators, mechanics, and laborers during cargo operations. + **Operate & Monitor Systems:** Start generators, operate boom conveyors, and manage cargo discharge. + **Ensure Safety & Compliance:** Conduct safety meetings, monitor environmental risks, and enforce company policies. + **Maintain Records:** Keep accurate logs, complete discrepancy reports, and submit required documentation. + **Coordinate with Ship & Shore Teams:** Communicate with ship officers, tug crews, and Foss operations. + **Support Maintenance & Repairs:** Assist in equipment upkeep and ensure proper inventory of supplies. **Overview of the project wok schedule:** **January to Late May: Maintenance & Repair (M&R) Season -- Tacoma, WA** + **Schedule:** 4 days a week, **Monday to Thursday, 10-hour shifts** + **Work:** + Maintenance and repairs on lighterage barges + Training in heavy equipment operation + Assisting with electrical and hydraulic repairs + Working with an experienced team **Late May to Late June: Break** + No work is performed. **Late June to End of October: Operations at Red Dog Mine -- Northwest Alaska** + **Living Arrangements:** + Stay in modern accommodations with **room, board, and high-speed internet included** + Amenities: gym, sauna, game room, pool table, movie room, basketball court + **Schedule:** **6 hours on / 6 hours off** (weather permitting) + Work is focused on transporting ore using barges + Work weeks average **~70 hours** **November 1 to Late November: Break** + No work is performed as barges return to Tacoma. **Late November to Mid-December: Winterizing Barges -- Tacoma, WA** + **Work:** Prepping barges for winter storage **Mid-December to New Year's: Break** + No work is performed. **What we are looking for:** + **Leadership & Communication:** Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and team-building skills. + **Technical Knowledge:** Understanding of barge operations, equipment, and safety procedures. + **Computer Skills:** Proficiency in **Excel, Word, and data entry** for reporting and documentation. + **Required Certification:** **Valid TWIC card** (or willingness to obtain one). + **Experience:** 2+ years in a management role or marine-related field. + This role requires participation in the Lead Compliance Program with respect to monthly blood testing, fitting and proper utilization of respiratory protection If you're interested in supporting an exciting, fast-paced complex operation with ample opportunity for professional growth, apply today! _Foss Maritime Company is an Equal Opportunity - Affirmative Action Employer and a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
