Baker Hughes is seeking two 'Field Specialist' apprentices - In-line inspection (ILI) part of PPS to support our operations, the position is split between UK workshop and in-field.

As a Field Specialist (both in the UK workshop and in-field)

Is a vital member of the PPS ILI team, the role is responsible for carrying out preparation, mobilisation and in field deployment activities in a key technology which they have attained technical certification.  This includes ensuring that all equipment is fully maintained to the recognised standard as outlined in the relevant work instructions.  Delivering and running tools in field successfully is a key part of PPS ILI, ability to deliver on time reports to our customers around the world so they can ensure the safe operating of oil and gas pipelines.

Although the skills required to develop to become a fully certified Field Specialist (Level 1) in the Pipeline Inspection industry are developed over time, the ideal candidate for a Field Specialist is self-driven, persistent problem solver who has a high attention to detail and enjoys working to deadlines. This individual must be process oriented, as adherence to PPS ILI work instructions and industry standards, and should also be deeply committed to quality and accuracy at a highly detailed level.

About the Apprenticeship

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to complete an apprenticeship, to be supported in gaining a formal qualification whilst earning.

As an Operations Apprentice, you will be a Trainee and will undergo a program of training, testing and supervision aimed at reaching the Pearson Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) 601/9054/1 Qualification over 3 years.

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will also have the opportunity to pursue a one-year higher extension course, should you choose to continue your development.

Delivery Method:

You will be based on-site four days per week, with one day per week spent at Tyne north training, Embleton Avenue, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, NE28 9NJ (typically on Wednesdays).

Course Length:

A 3 Year Apprenticeship (with 4 months added for EPA (End Point Assessment)

Industry Internal Training:

As part of their internal BH training after the initial 3 years apprenticeship they would also qualify for field specialist level 1 part of the ASNT standard ANSI/ASNT ILI-PQ-2023 (In-Line inspection personnel)

Have a minimum of GCSE or equivalent 5 subjects including Maths, English and Science (Grade C / 4 or equivalent/Pass) essential.Be enthusiastic, be self-motivating and have a keen eye for detail.Be a good team player and display good communication.Have good IT skills.Be able to demonstrate thoroughness and attention to detail.Be a motivated self-starter, proactively taking the initiative to lead and solve problems.

Selection Process:

Your application will be reviewed by the Recruiter. If you meet the role criteria, you will be invited to have an initial screening call with the Sourcer.If you are selected from the longlist, you will then be invited onsite at Baker Hughes in Cramlington for an initial interview.If you are successful after the initial interview, you will then be invited to the second stage interview onsite at Baker Hughes in Cramlington and spend time meeting the team.The successful candidates will then receive an offer and start in September 2025 inline with the academic year.

Working Week

This is a full-time apprenticeship position, totaling 37 hours per week.You will be based on-site four days per week, with one day per week spent at Tyne north training, Embleton Avenue, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, NE28 9NJ (typically on Wednesdays).During college term breaks when college is closed, you will be expected to attend site for all five working days.Flexible start time are available, 0700-0830hrs, with the option for compressed hours depending on business needs and agreement with your line manager.
