Aviation Superintendent
Position in the Organization Chart: Reports to: Head of Logistics Base Supports: Supply Chain Manager (Port Moresby) Operationally linked to: RSES at Herd Base Job Dimension:The Aviation Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all aviation activities within the project, ensuring compliance with EP16 Directive (Exploration & Production Aeronautical Policy) and associated company aviation rules. The role focuses on maximizing aircraft efficiency, managing helipads and airstrips, and ensuring safe and compliant operations across the affiliate.
HSE & Personal Responsibilities: Identify and apply all relevant HSE regulations. Promote and supervise preventive and corrective actions for safety, environmental protection, and equipment integrity. Enforce aviation-related safety and environmental regulations. Support HSE inspections, audits, and incident investigations. Participate in permit-to-work meetings, safety tours, and root cause analyses. Contribute to REX+ and prepare Safety Feedback Notices as needed. Key Activities: Operations: Ensure compliance with CASA PNG and international aviation regulations. Plan and coordinate daily aircraft movements and schedules. Manage flight following programs (e.g., Purari MBZ). Provide weather updates and ensure aircraft maintenance planning. Lead daily aviation meetings and SOP development. Supervise helipad/runway inspections and communication systems (Spider Tracks, Sky Net). Ensure proper handling and documentation of dangerous goods (DGs). Methods: Assess and improve aviation organization and procedures. Review affiliate aviation strategy and support HQ audits. Ensure timely resolution of audit findings. Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual aviation reports (KPIs, usage, etc.). Provide ad-hoc reports as requested. Aviation Expertise: Serve as the focal point for aviation across all disciplines (Drilling, Projects, Logistics). Assess personnel competence, training, and documentation at operational sites. Personnel Development: Develop aviation team knowledge and training plans. Coach and mentor site personnel involved in aviation activities. Context & Environment: Strategic role in PNG LNG operations. Operates in a complex environment with community, environmental, and security challenges. Based at Herd Base, with a 5/5 rotational schedule, 12-hour workdays. Accountabilities: Ensure compliance with statutory and DGEP aviation rules. Develop and maintain SOPs aligned with safety management systems. Promote HSE initiatives and ensure aviation safety performance. Required Qualifications & Experience: • Industry experience as a pilot (RW, FW), aircraft engineer or air traffic controller • Experience in Aviation Safety Management and accident/incident investigation is desirable.• Strong coaching and team abilities.
