The incumbent executes automation engineering activities for strategic capital projects and/or site Building automation related projects within the Toronto Engineering & Technical Services Organization. This position is responsible to lead as the PLC systems automation subject matter expert and manage development, concept, design, commissioning, qualification and maintenance of automation systems related to PLC (Programmable logic controllers) systems.
This position will be responsible to coordinate with various trades (architecture/building, mechanical, electrical, ITS, maintenance, process engineering, operations, and Manufacturing Technology); to ensure the correct installation of all automation and associated equipment while adhering to established regulatory compliance requirements.
The incumbent is also responsible for developing appropriate solutions to satisfy the needs of internal customers in accordance with company guidelines and procedures, and within budget and schedule commitments. The incumbent will be actively involved in system designs and ensuring the implementation of the design follows sanofi standards and specifications.
This position may be realized as a lead automation engineer with demonstrated knowledge and experience in technology and is responsible for multiple systems across the entire site. The incumbent must have a proven record of working independently within a matrixed project team.
The incumbent needs to demonstrate technical leadership qualities, abilities to lead a team of automation engineers with varying experience level. The incumbent needs to be able to demonstrate and communicate good technical understanding of the automation systems and defend technical design decisions.

Main Responsibilities:
Design Development and specifications. Responsible for developing preliminary and basic engineering deliverables that meet URS and compliance requirements including best practices guidelines. Depending on project, some deliverables may be generated internally while other times by external engineering. Accountable for technical quality of design. Perform appropriate reviews with stakeholders. Make sure engineering contractor calculations are correct, and review vendor designs for adherence to specification. Responsible for design that meets project budget and schedule.
Serve as technical PLC automation engineering subject matter expert responsible for automation system(s) across the entire site. Support all site CAPAs, CCRs and deviation investigations.
Provides direct technical input for design and fabrication, commissioning and qualification of PLC automation systems in a non-GMP and GMP environment.
Interpret and ensure compliance of PLC automation requirements developed during feasibility, basic design, detailed design phase and execution phase for C&M, Strategic, Tiers 1, 2, 3 projects.
Executes and works with various trades to complete installation and commissioning activities for automation systems to ensure they are designed and installed per design requirements.
Performs mechanical completion and start-up for capital projects. Lead as automation representative in FAT, SAT and Critical Test Plan execution.
Reviews the C&Q test plans for the automation and support the commissioning and qualification tasks.
Direct input into configuration administration and maintenance activities of the site’s manufacturing computer and automation systems, including process control systems, building automation systems, configuration, interfaces.
Supports operations and performs with troubleshooting and issue resolution with respect to Building Automation and Process automation systems such as Siemens, Rockwell, Ignition (Inductive Automation), Johnson Controls.
Technical engineering support to manufacturing sites. Provide technical guidance to site engineering and maintenance teams upon request. Apply lessons learned from other sites to help with trouble shooting, design issues and testing specifics. Responsible to understand site specific standards and procedures.
Ability to work in a collaborative shared space (Obeya) in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision-making is required.
Technical aptitude/understanding across a broad number of subjects including vaccine processes and equipment, HVAC systems, building and equipment maintenance.
Technical aptitude/understanding of digital system.
About You
Requirements:
College Diploma in Engineering, Science or Computer Science.
Preferred - Bachelors in Engineering, Science or Computer Science
2 to 5 years, direct experience in applied automation design engineering.
Additional experience in construction/installation, equipment start-up, qualification and/or validation is preferred.
Soft and Technical Skills:
Individual must have strong knowledge of process and building automation systems (DCS and BAS).
Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential.
Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job-trainings, and other controlled documents.
Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis).

The salary range for this position is:
$76,200.00 - $110,066.66All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs. Additional benefits information can be found through the LINK.
