Description
Automation Scientist in Non-Clinical Drug Safety will drive implementation of automated workflows to support pre-clinical studies. The individual should have knowledge of the principles and concepts of various biology assays as it pertains to method development and sample testing using various liquid handlers and laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will provide input into experiments to optimize methods with laboratory equipment and automation and sample preparation as needed.
The responsibilities of the Scientist will be to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment to operate automated laboratory equipment and systems to support various Non-Clinical Drug Safety assays. The candidate will be able to leverage the understanding of laboratory equipment impacting procedures supporting in vitro assay and model characterization efforts.
Responsibilities:
•\tOversee and drive the design, planning, and execution of robust automation strategies to support the NDS group in West Point:
o\tAutomation of generic immunoassay methods using hybrid automation (Hamilton Starlet & integrated robotics platform)
o\tAutomation of cell culture maintenance & cell-based assays
•\tWork with multiple stakeholders and end users to troubleshoot errors, maintain, and update instruments
•\tTrain scientists in automation workflows & platforms
•\tMap and integrate all the workflows for efficient use of automation and space
•\tManage data integrity through automated processes
•\tCollaborate to identify, evaluate, and recommend novel and cutting-edge automation strategies
•\tWork jointly with department members, IT, and across functional teams to implement automation workflows, support lab instrumentation and robotic platforms, and develop novel data handling and analysis workflows

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
•\tBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automated Sciences, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry or equivalent with scientific expertise with laboratory equipment in the development and execution of bioanalytical assays
Required Experience and Skills:
•\tExperience with liquid handling systems – (e.g. Beckman, Hamilton)
•\tExperience with integrated robotic system schedulers (e.g. Biosero)
•\tExcellent verbal and written communication
•\tAbility to generate, evaluate and understand scientific data generated on robotic platforms
Preferred Experience and Skills:
•\tExperience working in pharmaceutical or biotech company and/or laboratory experience
•\tExperience implementing novel automation workflows
•\tElectro-Mechanical design/assembly skills
•\tUse of electronic laboratory notebooks
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
