Automation Controls Engineer

As the **Automation Controls Engineer** , you will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of electrical and control systems throughout our facility. You will provide hands-on automation and maintenance support across all departments, driving capital and strategic initiatives focused on process reliability, environmental compliance, and electrical system performance. Your expertise will be crucial in implementing process control tools that maintain system stability, reduce variability, and align with CertainTeed’s core principles. **Key Responsibilities:** + **Develop and Commission Automation Systems:** -Design and implement plant automation systems, including PLCs, HMI/SCADA, MES data collection, and IIoT networks, while executing retrofit projects with AC/servo drives and control system upgrades. + **Project Management:** -Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor all assigned projects, ensuring compliance with quality control standards throughout the project lifecycle. + **Collaborate with Teams:** -Work closely with plant Production and Engineering Managers to coordinate changes in production processes and resolve equipment malfunctions. + **Lead Process Control Standards:** -Develop and enforce process control standards, specifying control system architectures to optimize performance. + **Support Process Optimization:** -Assist process engineers in problem analysis, solution development, and implementation of corrective actions to enhance efficiency. + **Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis:** -Lead a team of technicians in troubleshooting activities, analyzing operating problems, and implementing corrective actions. + **Maintain Compliance:** -Ensure electrical equipment meets regulatory codes at state and federal levels, and report all EH&S incidents. + **Emergency Support:** -Be available for after-hours support during emergency downtime situations, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. + **Educational Background:** A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required, with a preference for Electrical Engineering. + **Experience:** -Minimum of 5 years in a Controls & Automation Engineering role within continuous process manufacturing plants or similar environments. + **Technical Skills:** + Proficient in programming Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix) and HMI development, preferably within Ignition or Wonderware platforms. + Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC), Arc Flash (NFPA-70), and industrial networking (TCP/IP, Modbus). + Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and standard instrumentation (4-20 mA / 1-5V). + **Hands-On Problem Solver:** -Capable of providing on-site and remote support to solve complex automation-related issues. + **Project Management Familiarity:** -Knowledge of project management practices is preferred. + **Team Player:** -Strong teamwork, mentoring, and coaching skills, along with excellent communication and analytical abilities.
