To ensure that companies subject to the Colorado Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act (RUUPA, CRS 38-13-101 et seq) comply with the Act. The division also educates the public and businesses about the Unclaimed Property Act. Primary Duties: This position focuses on enhancing holder reporting and compliance to increase funds deposited into the unclaimed property trust fund, where they are held until the rightful owner or heir is located. This involves: + Conducting and Assisting with Audits: Performing phone or desk audits as directed and assisting the audit manager with field audits. + Audit Preparation and Processing: Reviewing reports, recommending audit candidates, and processing audit documents. + Education and Outreach: Participating in or conducting seminars to educate holders on reporting requirements. + Collaboration and Communication: Working independently or in a team to initiate audits, meet with holder representatives to justify findings, or explain audit aspects. + Guidance and Training: Assisting less experienced holders in understanding the Unclaimed Property Law and reporting, and participating in training for holders, Unclaimed Property staff, or other auditors. + Knowledge of the Colorado Statutes: Demonstrating familiarity with the Colorado Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act and clarifying the intent and rationale of its statutory requirements. + Claims Management: Supporting the compliance and claims sections by processing business claims, reviewing for compliance and completeness, determining eligibility, and approving or denying claims. + Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to holders, including education and training, and outreach. Must participate in one outreach event per performance year. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SUBSTITUTIONS, CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & APPEAL RIGHTS: Minimum Qualifications: Experience Only: At least six (6) years of professional experience in auditing. This includes conducting audits, preparing reports, and developing findings and recommendations for compliance. Education and Experience A combination of related education in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, certification, and/or relevant professional experience in auditing equal to 6 years. *Current, valid licensure as a CPA from the Colorado Board of Accountancy or a current, valid CIA certificate will substitute for five (5) years of the requirement.
