Description

The primary functions of this position are to coordinator the prevention/treatment of athletic related injuries to student athletes including operating the college’s athletic training and rehabilitation facilities. Other functions include but are not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of short-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries in consultation with and the direction of qualified Physicians.

Examples of Duties

Maintain current license to practice Athletic training as set forth by the State of Florida Department of Health. Maintain current certification as Athletic Trainer by meeting the criteria set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification. Maintain all GCSC athletic health records including all accident reports, injury status reports, and treatment schedules. Function as a liaison between physicians’ coaches, student athletes, parents and administration regarding injuries and treatment of student athletes. Schedules and assists with pre-season physical examination for all intercollegiate sports. This includes physical screenings to detect pre-existing conditions that would limit or prevent participation in intercollegiate athletics. Administer emergency care and treat injuries at athletic events at the GCSC Panama City Campus as well as out-of-town games. Establish a referral system with physicians in the College’s district. Attend all home athletic events and travel out of town as needed. Travel with the teams to post season tournaments as approved by the Athletic Director. Maintain training room including supervision of equipment along with ordering supplies and keeping proper inventory. Maintain training room hours to ensure proper treatment. Coordinate and assist all head coaches with the establishment of conditioning and rehabilitation programs appropriate for the specific sport. Ability to instruct athletes on the safe use of weights and training equipment. Assist with conditioning and nutrition. Maintains cellular phone and be available to coaches and other college staff. Maintain appropriate office/training room hours Perform other duties as assigned

 

Typical Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, with Master’s degree preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC: 

First aid/CPR and other related certifications. National Athletic Training Association (NATA) certification required. Florida Driver’s License required.

Must be capable of driving to away games.

 

The ability to perform basic maintenance and operations skills i.e. setting up facilities for practices and games. This could include lifting up to 50 pounds manually or with an apparatus such as a dolly.
