**SUMMARY**
The primary function of the Miraval Astronomer is to foster a richer understanding of the universe we inhabit, igniting a lasting passion to explore and better grasp our journey through the vastness of space and time. The ideal candidate will create an immersive astronomy experience at Miraval, one that invites guests to slow down, look up, and reconnect—with the cosmos, with nature, and with themselves.
**Duties and Responsibilities:**
· Lead guided stargazing sessions, night sky tours, and telescope viewings.
· Explain constellations, planets, and astronomical phenomena in an engaging and accessible way.
· Operate and maintain telescopes, laser pointers, and related astronomy equipment.
· Answer guest questions and adapt explanations for diverse audiences.
· Share astronomy-related myths, cultural stories, and history to enrich the experience.
· Monitor weather conditions and adjust programs as needed.
· Ensure guest safety and comfort during outdoor nighttime activities.

**Qualifications:**
· Strong interest and foundational knowledge in astronomy or astrophysics (formal education is a plus but not always required).
· Prior experience in guiding, public speaking, or leading tours.
· Enthusiasm for science communication and storytelling.
· Ability to operate and troubleshoot telescopes and binoculars (training may be provided).
· Comfortable working outdoors at night, often in remote or low-light locations.
· Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of people.
· College coursework or degree in Astronomy, Physics, Earth Science, or related field preferred.
· Equivalent experience in astronomy education, guiding, or science communication will also be considered
