The Utility Maintenance Apprentice role is an active position aimed at aiding the Utility Maintenance team in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing crucial equipment within a pharmaceutical manufacturing setting. Working under the supervision or guidance of experienced technicians and engineers, the apprentice gains expertise in ensuring the dependable operation of utilities such as HVAC, water purification, compressed air, steam, and other vital systems required for pharmaceutical production. This apprenticeship program offers thorough training and skill enhancement in technical areas vital to Utility Operations in the biotech pharmaceutical industry.

What You’ll Do
Provides support to the maintenance team with servicing and repairing utility systems, including HVAC, boilers, chillers, water systems, and compressed air systems to ensure minimal downtimeSupports the Utility Operations team with wastewater testing, treatment, and bulk chemical offloadingLearns to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in facility utilities to maintain operational efficiencyPerforms preventive maintenance tasks, under supervisionLearns to use diagnostic tools, works with maintenance schedules, and retains accurate maintenance recordsWorks in alignment with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and safety regulations, and learns the importance of clean environments and strict protocols in a pharmaceutical settingAssists with logging and maintaining maintenance activities and completing required reports while gaining experience with industry-standard and company documentation practicesCollaborates cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams to understand the interdependencies of facility maintenance in pharmaceutical manufacturing productionParticipates in on-the-job training, technical workshops, or other relevant certification programs to expand skills in facility maintenance, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliancePerforms other duties, as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, and/or building automation systemsWillingness to learn new skills and techniquesAbility to think analytically and solve problems in a structured mannerBasic knowledge of Fume Hoods, Laminar flow hoods, and biosafety cabinetsProficient in the use and knowledge of computers (hardware & software), including Microsoft Windows and OfficeEffective communication, both written and oralAbility to document maintenance work and collaborate with team membersAbility to lift and move heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods of timeMust be able to work Monday-Friday and may require weekend work to meet Manufacturing needsRequired Skills
