Associate or VP - Equity Research, Large Cap Biotech

Job Description:

The SMid/ Large Cap Biotechnology Equity Research team covers companies spanning several areas including oncology, central nervous system disorders, and rare diseases. The lead analyst is top three ranked in the Institutional Investor vote for the smid biotech category. In 2021 the team worked on several priced IPOs and add ons and is currently vetting several additional transactions. The candidate for this position should be intellectually curious and have a deep desire to learn.

The ideal candidate possesses a life science background and experience with financial modeling in either sell-side research or healthcare investment banking.

He or she will work alongside the Senior Analyst and Associates in all aspects of the research process, from idea generation to modeling, including but not limited to the following:

Write industry and company reports and company launch initiationsDevelop doctor/patient surveys and conduct doctor interviews to understand market dynamics, demand and future projectionBuild financial models to quantitatively analyze company valuationsDemonstrate industry knowledge (such as regulatory, pricing) from early-stage study to market approvalBuild relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companiesSeek out new, value-added and/or unusual sources of informationHave ability to monitor news flow and highlight stock-impacting updates when the Senior Analyst is travelingInteract regularly with sales, trading and external clients and if performance on team is strong enough, take on coverage of individual names over time 

This is an in office position with requirement to be in office four days per week

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience (Advanced degree in life science discipline is a plus)Ideal candidate would have 2+ years of experience in Therapeutics investment banking, large cap biotech equity research or buy side experienceStrong writing and financial modeling skills is a mustMust enjoy following the stock market and doing desktop and field researchAcademic background in a life science field and should understand economics, macroeconomic factors and policyMust have excellent communications skills, written and verbalMust have strong attention to detail, ability to multi-taskMust work well in a collaborative team environmentMust have strong desire to be a team player and view team’s success as a reflection of individual successWill on occasion be asked to participate in vetting of private and/or publicly traded companies for transaction purposes
