Job Description

We are looking for a motivated junior lawyer to join our Asia legal team, supporting Veolia’s mission of ecological transformation.  This is a hands-on development role where you will work directly with the General Counsel and business stakeholders across our water, waste, and energy operations in South East Asia.

This role is designed for a proactive lawyer with strong black-letter law fundamentals, and the ambition to grow into a trusted in-house adviser and true commercial business partner.  You will gain broad exposure to projects, regulatory compliance, and corporate matters in a multinational environment.  With appropriate supervision and mentoring, you will be supported to take on increasing scope and complexity over time. Many companies talk about sustainability initiatives, our business is about operationalising them at scale.

Where You Will Contribute

You will act as a key support pillar for the legal team, handling day-to-day legal operations while being trained on complex infrastructure projects.

1. Commercial & Project Support

Draft and Negotiate: Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial contracts (including NDAs, services agreements, procurement contracts, and amendments), with increasing scope and autonomy.

Assist on Major Projects: Support senior counsel on large-scale infrastructure, engineering, and O&M projects, assisting with contract analysis, risk identification, and coordination of documentation.

Tenders: Assist in reviewing public and private tender documentation to identify key legal risks.

2. Transactional & Dispute Management

M&A Support: Assist with due diligence exercises, document review, execution of transactions and post-completion integration matters.

Dispute Resolution: Support arbitration and litigation matters, including factual analysis, document review, and coordination and liaison with external counsel.

External Counsel Management: Help coordinate external lawyers, including tracking deliverables and monitoring costs.

3. General Counsel Office Support

Advisory: Provide first-line advice to internal stakeholders on general corporate and commercial queries.

Governance: Support the implementation of Group policies and internal approval processes.

Regulatory Watch: Monitor regulatory developments across South East Asia  and contribute to internal update and risk assessments.

Qualifications

Law degree with 0–2 years’ PQE (Qualification in Singapore or another Common Law jurisdiction is a plus).

Strong academic background with solid training in contract law and drafting (e.g., gained at a reputable firm or multinational in-house team).

Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to learn through exposure. You must be organised, eager to learn, and comfortable asking questions when you spot a risk you don't understand.

Comfortable working in a regional, multicultural environment.

Plus-to-Have

Additional language skills, particularly those prevalent in South East Asia (e.g. Chinese, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, or Bahasa Malaysia).

Prior exposure to (or a genuine interest in) infrastructure, energy, utilities, or construction sectors.

Familiarity with other South East Asian jurisdictions.
