**Opportunity Overview:**
The Associate General Counsel III (AGC III) is responsible for providing strategic guidance and advice to the firm and its affiliates on a wide variety of legal issues and handling diverse legal projects of substantial complexity, all while maintaining both a legal and business lens on their work. They will regularly operate autonomously in the face of complex issues both within and outside their usual sphere of engagement, bringing sound judgment and a balanced perspective to each situation. The AGC III will routinely make decisions regarding complex, material legal issues with limited to no guidance and consistently consult with and advise business owners and senior leadership on a regular basis. This role offers the opportunity to influence key decisions, shape outcomes, and serve as a trusted advisor across the organization.
**What you'll do:**
+ Identifies and assesses potential liability to the firm, its affiliates, and its associates. Proposes alternatives, solutions, and mitigations when risks are identified.
+ Reviews, assesses, and resolves material legal issues for the firm and its affiliates; researches legal questions and drafts legal documents.
+ Routinely makes decisions that have material impact on the firm and its affiliates.
+ Recognizes points of connectivity and collaborates across business, compliance, and legal teams. Proactively brings those teams together and drives efficient legal and business outcomes.
+ Regularly and proactively identifies issues, areas needing support, or gaps, and identifies appropriate operational support to address them.
+ Communicates advice, recommendations, and findings effectively with attorneys, professionals, associates, and leaders; exercises judgment to escalate issues and keep stakeholders informed.
+ Fosters an inclusive environment and encourages diversity of thought.
+ Represents the firm and its affiliates by working directly with opposing or outside counsel and state and federal regulators.
+ Selects, retains, and manages external attorneys providing legal and regulatory advice to the firm and its affiliates.
+ Provides informal leadership and delegates work to support staff or other attorneys.

**Skills/Requirements**
**What you'll need:**
+ Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri or another state
+ Minimum 10 years progressive responsibility in an in-house, regulatory, or law firm environment, with a focus on privacy, and information security, or information governance required. Securities and financial industry knowledge is preferred.
+ Advanced level of understanding and extensive knowledge of cybersecurity, information governance, and privacy laws and regulations and the regulatory environment surrounding these areas.
+ Regularly and effectively deals with issues of substantial complexity and works in tangential or new areas of the law.
+ Seasoned judgment on matters within their area of expertise as well as the firm's operations.
+ Extensive expertise in relevant areas of the law, and able to identify which other subject matter experts should be engaged on issues.
