Associate General Counsel, Security Legal
**Summary:** We are seeking a highly motivated Associate General Counsel to work on Meta’s Central Security Legal Team, based in the United States and with a remit to support security, safety, integrity, product, regulatory and privacy equities worldwide. This is a great opportunity to work with a dynamic team on complex and novel legal and technological issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate would bring both United States and international criminal justice experience, civil litigation experience, and a keen interest in learning and working with new technologies and laws across jurisdictions and timezones. They should be able to work effectively both independently as well as with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional teams. Key qualities include sound legal judgment, demonstrated work ethic, executing under tight timelines, strategic thinking, solid communications skills and being proactive, flexible, collaborative, and diligent. **Required Skills:** Associate General Counsel, Security Legal Responsibilities: 1. Identify and advise business and product partners on global legal obligations relating to data disclosure, platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes 2. Provide security, safety, integrity and privacy legal guidance on a wide range of product developments, including private messaging products, e-commerce ans payments related products, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality products, and business products 3. Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters relating to user data preservation and disclosure in criminal and civil matters 4. Develop and implement effective policies for processing legal requests and protecting user data 5. Develop strategic approaches to managing regulatory, criminal and policy legal risks and resolving disputes 6. Work closely with the company’s safety and security teams to protect the people who use our service from abuse 7. Provide advice and sound judgment in crises impacting the security of Meta and its employees 8. Support legal and public policy teams’ engagement with regulators and legislators on safety and security policy 9. Collaborate with members of Public Policy, Legal, Community Operations, Product, Engineering and others on safety and security matters 10. Manage effective relationships with key government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement agencies, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams **Minimum Qualifications:** Minimum Qualifications: 11. J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) 12. Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location) 13. 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience 14. Demonstrated business judgment and client counseling skills 15. Effective communication skills and experience working with cross functional teams 16. Experience managing and handling legal and regulatory issues 17. Substantial experience with U.S. law, particularly the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute **Preferred Qualifications:** Preferred Qualifications: 18. Experience advising technology or telecommunications companies as in-house or outside counsel on regulatory, safety and security matters, investigations, policy and/or criminal process 19. Experience with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, Stored Communications Act, General Data Protection Regulation, and other analogous U.S. and international laws 20. Experience providing guidance to providers in responding to law enforcement requests and regulatory requests 21. Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation 22. Understanding of major EU laws regarding data disclosure and content moderation, including familiarity with the European General Data Protection Regulation 23.
