Job DescriptionAECOM is currently seeking an Associate Director - Structures, to join our team in Abu Dhabi.
The Associate Director – Structures is a senior technical leader responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of large-scale structural engineering projects, with a focus on vertical structures such as high-rise buildings and towers. Leading a design group of approximately 15 staff, the Associate Director ensures excellence from bid through to project completion, balancing technical rigor, commercial performance, and client satisfaction.
The role is responsible to act as Bid Manager for small to medium-scale opportunities and play a key part in shaping the strategic direction of the practice. The Associate Director will support senior leadership in advancing the company’s design philosophy, research initiatives, and technical development, while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise engineering teams in the design and delivery of complex vertical structures.Lead scheduled technical reviews (Lead Verification), conduct quality checks, and approve designs, calculations, and drawings to ensure accuracy and reliability.Provide technical leadership, ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory requirements, and company standards.Review and approve structural designs, calculations, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.Conduct advanced structural analysis to solve complex engineering challenges and optimise performance.Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure efficient delivery.Coordinate with architects, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve design and construction issues.Promote the integration of innovative materials, technologies, and methodologies into structural solutions.Champion sustainable design practices to reduce environmental impact and enhance building performance.Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.Serve as the primary client liaison, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.Contribute to business development through technical proposals, presentations, and client engagement.Identify and mitigate design and execution risks to ensure structural integrity and project success.Stay current with evolving codes, regulations, and industry best practices, integrating them into project delivery.Support recruitment, staff development, and continuous improvement initiatives across the practice.Operate with autonomy and accountability, influencing strategic decisions and driving innovation.QualificationsBachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Minimum of 15 years post-undergraduate experience, with a background on vertical projects.Additional InformationAbout AECOM
