Associate Director - Process Engineering

Lilly is currently constructing a Next Generation Biotech Drug Substance Manufacturing Facility in Limerick, Ireland. This facility will be Lilly’s most technically advanced manufacturing site and will include next-generation manufacturing technologies and advanced data collection and analysis platforms that will deliver improvements in safety and quality, and increased productivity and process performance.  

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position: 

The Associate Director-Process Engineering is a key leader in the cross functional support of the Limerick manufacturing operation.  This role is responsible for the productivity and development of engineering professionals with the purpose of ensuring that reliable and compliant equipment and systems are used for our manufacturing processes. The Associate Director Engineering is expected to lead by example and provide coaching to others in the areas of safety, quality, engineering, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities 

Oversight of the process engineering organization in Limerick and integration into the site process engineering organization.       

Provide process engineering support to the manufacturing operations in Limerick.

Planning and development of engineering capabilities for Limerick drug substance biotech manufacturing.

Provide oversight to local capitals projects required to support the Limerick manufacturing facilities. 

Be a member of Limerick Engineering Leadership team. 

Responsible for supervising and coaching engineering staff for their respective area, including completing performance reviews and development planning.

Oversight of engineering staffing including recruitment, resource planning, and succession planning

Provide leadership and develop objectives to deliver Business Plan goals as they relate to safety, quality, and equipment/process effectiveness and efficiency.

In coordination with engineering function, set and reinforce standards for engineering work product and utilization of first principles.

Maintain metrics to measure performance against business objectives and make necessary changes to improve performance.

Have oversight of engineering related technical issues and improvement initiatives including review & approval of deviations and change controls.

Provide leadership and partnership for local and major capital projects.

Participate appropriately in site planning processes (capital and resource), representing the interests of the team but with a view to the overall site picture.

Lead Limerick user knowledge of key unit operations. 

Take ownership for and support management decisions.  

Provide Process Engineering input and manage collaborations, both formal and informal, between the team and functional support groups such as operations, maintenance, engineering, analytical laboratory, financial, purchasing, HR, etc. 

Educational/Experience Requirements

​Engineering honours degree qualified, ideally with 10 years relevant industry experience including leadership roles

Proven capability within a GMP Manufacturing environment.
