**POSITION DETAILS**
Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens **,** LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. The Associate Director will serve as a key administrative support professional in the International Student Services (ISS) Office. Reporting to the Director of International Student Services, this individual will assist with a wide range of office functions related to supporting F-1 international students throughout their academic journey at LaGuardia. responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and oversee federal reporting and compliance activities, including issuing and maintaining I-20s, SEVIS record updates, monitoring student status, and ensuring adherence to F-1 visa regulations.
+ Ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of records in the SEVIS system, CUNYfirst SEVIS module, and internal databases.
+ Generate, analyze, and present reports related to student status, office operations, compliance metrics, and institutional priorities.
+ Provide direction for peer advisors and front desk staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling, while fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
+ Lead the coordination and execution of orientation, registration, and other high-impact student events.
+ Partner with the ISS advising team and DSOs by designing systems to track student engagement, streamline workflows, and ensure consistent delivery of services.
+ Collaborate with campus departments to align international student compliance with college policies, institutional goals, and federal requirements.
+ Develop and implement informational materials, workshops, and communications to proactively support international students.
+ Plan and manage community-building events, cultural programming, and engagement initiatives that enhance inclusion and belonging.
+ Contribute to policy development, procedural improvements, and structural updates that impact compliance and student success.
+ Coordinate with IT and Enrollment Management to evaluate and implement system upgrades or new functionalities related to student records.
+ Serve as a primary contact for audits, legal inquiries, or external agency requests involving international students.
+ Represent ISS on college committees or task forces related to academic records, enrollment, and international education.
+ Lead special projects involving process improvements, data analysis, and operational efficiencies as assigned by the Director.
+ Provide organizational and operational support to ensure the ISS office functions effectively, with an emphasis on efficiency and continuous improvement.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s degree and six years of progressively responsible experience required.
+ Demonstrated leadership in managing professional and support staff, with a track record of building effective teams.
+ Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing office processes, policies, or service delivery structures.
+ Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to set priorities and drive results.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across departments.
+ Academic advising experience preferred.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
+ Experience working with international student populations and interpreting federal regulations related to F-1 compliance.
+ Familiarity with SEVIS and F-1 visa regulations.
+ Knowledge of FERPA and proper handling of student data.
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Manages a College Enrollment function or unit.
- Oversees daily office activities and staff development to ensure efficient and effective enrollment operations
- Assists senior management in developing plans, implementing initiatives and assessing performance
- Recommends and implements improvements to schedules, policies and procedures to advance unit effectiveness
- Serves as resource expert on enrollment practices to resolve complex student issues, and assists students with special circumstances in receiving support
- Plans and executes workshops, orientation sessions, and events to acquaint students with enrollment processes
- Reviews and approves content for print and on-line enrollment materials
- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
- May manage professional and/or clerical staff as well as department budget
