Associate Director - BRD Automation

Organization Overview:

The Bioprocess Operations team within Bioproduct Research and Development (BRD) is responsible for the manufacture of drug substance (DS) to support clinical trials within the BRD portfolio. This includes the internal manufacture of monoclonal antibodies, bioconjugates and adeno associated viruses, as well as oversight of DS manufacturing at qualified collaboration partners.

The Associate Director for BRD Automation manages functional responsibilities for the process automation group supporting BRD.  This includes the K360 Bioprocess Pilot Plant, which is focused on producing bulk drug substance (API) for clinical trials and the associated process development labs within BRD.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for recruiting, career development, coaching, performance management, and succession planning for automation engineers and technicians.Defines resource needs for new initiatives and assigns personnel to ensure optimal project execution and organizational alignment.Manages contract personnel to support daily operations and project delivery, while managing associated budgets to ensure efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.Ensures all automation related activities and documentation are performed in alignment with current data integrity requirements.Instills technical rigor, ensures thorough root cause investigations for deviations, driving for continuous improvement in operational excellence.Reviews and approves deviations, change controls, and technical reports to ensure quality and compliance.Serves as a strategic liaison between the corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC) and the BRD organization to foster collaboration and alignment.Acts as a key interface with Tech@Lilly organizations to support cross-functional initiatives and innovation.Serves as the System Custodian for designated computer and automation systems, ensuring system integrity, compliance, and performance.Ensures staff adherence to all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and Quality System requirements.Ensures staff training requirements are clearly articulated and staff are properly qualified to perform assigned duties.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related science field

Experience Requirements:

Minimum 5+ years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience in engineering or related functional area.  Considerations will be made for experience in other manufacturing sectors.Minimum 3+ years’ experience in Process Automation/Control engineering.Previous supervisory experience or demonstrated technical leadership.Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and cultures.

Additional Skills/Preferences

Knowledge in data systems, historians, and reporting platforms.Knowledge of project management and vendor managementExcellent verbal and written communications skillsExperience in Capital project deliveryTechnical expertise in one or more automation platformscGMP Regulatory knowledge in process or automation engineering

Travel:

0-10% Position is 8 hour days with flexibility to support activities during shutdowns, weekends, etc.Travel is possible, but expected to be minimal

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$118,500 - $173,800

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
