What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets is a leading global investment banking company dedicated to providing services in banking, finance, and capital markets to corporations, institutional investors, asset managers, and governments globally. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer  to join our dynamic and innovative team in Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure.

What will you do?  

Design, develop, and implement high-quality , scalable software solutions for data processing pipelines.

Build and optimize data architectures for storage and processing of structured and unstructured data.

Strategically prioritize the book of work based on a deep understanding of market intelligence, the strategic goals of the business, and revenue generation balanced against risk, audit, and compliance requirements.

Implement and enforce best practices for data security, governance, and compliance.

Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) to manage data infrastructure and services.

Document data workflows, architectures, and processes.

Cross train team to remove key man risks and ensure adequate coverage across

What do you need to succeed?  

Must-have

Degree in Compute Science or other related field with 10+ years of minimum experience in software development.

5+ years of experience in ETL process and Big data platforms, spark and Hadoop.

5+ years of experience in Scala programing.

Deep understanding of Capital Markets and electronic trading flows

Fundamental analytical and conceptual thinking skills

Leadership skills and experience working with technical teams (Developers/Quality Engineers/Business Analysts)

Strong data and analytics background

Nice-to-have        

Experience in centonization, Kubernetes and dev-ops pipelines.

Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline design.

Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect)
