Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic is seeking the next Associate Dean for Nursing Research!  The successful individual will be responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the Division of Nursing Research, all nursing research programs and their integration within the Department of Nursing in Rochester and across all Mayo Clinic sites. This includes the development and management of the infrastructure that advances the scientific foundation of nursing practice and its integration with clinical practice throughout the institution.

The Associate Dean for Nursing Research is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating policies, programs, and services related to nursing research. This leader participates in assessing the research environment, forecasting trends, transmitting values, communicating ideas, coaching and mentoring others, managing resources, and assuring that Mayo Clinic and departmental core values are implemented. The Associate Dean will work closely with administrative and research leadership across Mayo Clinic to develop appropriate infrastructure and mentor nursing research staff with the objective of meeting Mayo Clinic’s strategic priorities.

The Division of Nursing Research

The Division of Nursing Research advances health through rigorous, nurse-led science focused on three core areas: caregiving science, self-management science, and symptom science. Mayo Clinic nurse scientists lead research that addresses complex health challenges, from helping individuals manage chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, to testing non-pharmacologic interventions for cancer-related symptoms, to developing strategies that support healthcare professionals experiencing moral distress. Working within an academic medical center, Ph.D.-prepared nurses partner closely with interdisciplinary care teams to generate data-driven insights that improve patients’ health, well-being, and quality of life while elevating the practice of nursing worldwide.

The Division leads and conducts clinical research in collaboration with Mayo Clinic physicians, scientists, and external partners, leveraging world-class research infrastructure, a diverse patient population across three sites, and a strong team science model. Nurse scientists secure competitive research funding and disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and contributions to clinical practice guidelines, ensuring that discoveries translate directly into care delivery. Through strong mentorship, simplified pathways for innovation, and a culture of thought leadership, the Division of Nursing Research expands nursing knowledge globally and empowers nurses to shape the future of healthcare for patients, families, and caregivers.
