Associate Corporate Counsel, Payments Legal
Description Join a dynamic legal team where your expertise will directly shape Amazon's rapidly growing and evolving payments businesses. As a key legal strategist, you'll play a pivotal role in developing and launching payment products, navigating complex regulatory landscapes, negotiating complex commercial transactions with financial service partners. Your work will not only directly impact the paying experience of millions of customers, but also drive strategic priorities across the company. A successful candidate will have a strong product counseling and transactional background and be hard-working, proactive, entrepreneurial and able to apply sound, pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations. Regulatory background and prior experience in payments, credit/lending, or financial services is a plus. Key job responsibilities - Provide comprehensive legal guidance on regulatory compliance and product development for payment services - Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements for domestic and international financial products - Develop innovative legal solutions for emerging financial technology challenges - Collaborate across multiple business teams to support strategic initiatives - Analyze and mitigate legal risks in new payment and credit product launches A day in the life Lawyers at Amazon are trusted members of the business, and collaborating with our clients to develop innovative solutions to novel legal questions and business challenges is part of our daily responsibilities. As such, your day will be a blend of problem solving (both strategic and tactical) and collaborative legal support. You'll engage with cross-functional teams, diving deep into product development, analyzing regulatory frameworks, and crafting legal strategies that balance innovation with compliance. Basic Qualifications - 3+ years of legal experience - Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent - Experience in transactional work, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts or equivalent Preferred Qualifications - Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work - Experience in private practice or in house experience at a technology company or equivalent - Experience working cross functionally across several teams - Experience with financial services, payments or e-commerce - Ability to demonstrate sound legal and business judgment even in ambiguous situations Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
