Position: Associate Research Scientist

Shift: First Shift - Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM EST

This is a fully onsite role based at our BIOA Laboratory in Richmond, VA. We welcome applicants from all locations within the US. Discover Impactful Work:
Responsible for the regulatory and scientific conduct of molecular (PCR based) clinical and pre-clinical sample testing, stability projects, and/or other specialty technologies such as exploratory genomic testing (O-link, Next Gen Sequencing, Microarray). Performs routine sample testing and possible troubleshooting on multiple analytical instrumentation (qPCR, rt-qPCR, dPCR, ddPCR, Sanger Sequencing), calculates and interprets data, and records data in adherence with PPD SOPs and any additional requirements specific to the lab and / or client. Routinely acts as the technical project leader for multiple projects, interacts with clients on a weekly basis (or as needed) to provide updates, reviews and evaluates data, writes reports and protocols, directs analysts on daily assay set-up and execution.
A Day in the Life
Acts as Principal Investigator. Independently performs bioanalytical testing for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems. Understands and conforms to methods, and protocols applicable to assigned tasks. Designs and implements experiments independently.
Oversee analyst scheduling and project execution
Reviews and critiques study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.
Communicates data and technical issues to clients on a weekly basis (or as needed).
Provides technical guidance and training to staff.
Leads analytical (procedural and instrumental) troubleshooting sessions.
Assists in preparation and implementation of SOPs and quality systems.
Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
Experience
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 6+ years).
Or Master degree with 4+ years of experience
Or PhD with 2+ years of experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Acts as Principal Investigator. Independently performs bioanalytical testing for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems.
qPCR and d/ddPCR, extraction/purification of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) experience required. O-Link, Sanger Sequencing, Next Gen Sequencing, gene expression testing experience beneficial but not required.
Designs and executes experiments independently for self and others.
Broad knowledge of Molecular Genomics.
Experience working in a clean lab and/or clean/aseptic technique
Understanding of GLP or similar regulatory methods.
Full understanding of laboratory requirements, SOPs, ICH guidelines, USP requirements, and FDA guidance.
Full knowledge of technical operating systems
Ability to independently perform root cause analysis for method investigations
Proven ability in technical writing skills
Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
Effective written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills
Time management and project management skills
