Assistant Zone Director of Distribution - North Zone
JOB SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for leading the training efforts for new management personnel, handling terminal operations during vacancies and developing and auditing consistent procedures across the North Zone. This position will assist in guiding the performance and management of terminal operations in the North Zone of Airgas Merchant Gases. It is accountable for safety, cost, performance and meeting established driver staffing levels at both private and third party carrier locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Lead and own training completion of all employees in the zone (new hire, Airgas University, MyHR Learning, corporate initiatives).
On site leader for all new locations and insourcing until team in place.
Drive continuous improvement throughout the business to include safety, payloads & cost per volume. To include owning DRIVE KPI’s and improvement plans.
Assist in leading the zone distribution associates in safety, quality, distribution, customer service and supply chain issues.
Responsible for terminal audits and development of Best Practices processes across North Zones, other AMG Distribution zones and National Logistics Center.
Maintain staffing levels of drivers, mechanics and equipment to enable supply chain fulfillment in accordance with short term strategic goals.
Work with Terminal Managers to have the right level of equipment to serve the customer base.
Work closely with logistics, human resources, supply chain planning, fleet maintenance to deliver exceptional customer experience related to bulk gas distribution.
Works with regions and other zones as required to provide exceptional service for bulk gas customers.
Work with the National Carrier Manager to develop and own the day-to-day carrier operational process for both dedicated and on-demand carriers.

Bachelor of Science in Logistics/Business or related field
General knowledge of DOT regulations, FDA and cGMPs'
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Applies knowledge of continuous improvement
Ability to set vision and strategy and cascade through all assigned associates
Ability to implement programs/initiatives
Ability to use analytical thinking/techniques to solve problems
The candidate will have a minimum of ten years of relevant experience
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently (Up to 75% of work time, at times periods of 100% will be required for multiple weeks);
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Possession of a valid license to operate motor vehicles in the state at the time of appointment.
College Degree preferred
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Advanced knowledge of Google Suite applications (Doc, Sheet, Slides, Gmail, etc)
Experience in SAP or other enterprise maintenance software (i.e. Oracle or Maximo) required.
Use of internal specialized software to manage and track supply chain activity.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise and train 10+ indirect reports located across the zone.
COMMUNICATION and/or CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write routine business reports and business correspondence in English.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals using the English language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to calculate operational metrics and trend improvements over time.
