About the Position Reporting to the Head Coach for Men’s Track & Field and the Head Coach for Women’s Track & Field, the Assistant Throws Coach will be responsible for coaching and leading the throws program, while adhering to all NCAA, Centennial Conference, and College rules. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of expertise in the technical development and training of throwers (weight throw, shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin), along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct well-structured and purposeful practice sessions under the direction of the Head Coaches.

The Assistant Throws Coach for Track and Field should understand the role of intercollegiate athletics within a rigorous academic setting, possess strong communication skills, and operate effectively within the administrative structure of the teams and department. The Assistant Throws Coach will work collaboratively with the full track and field staff and should be committed to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. The ideal candidate will effectively build and sustain strong relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and student-athletes. They will mentor student-athletes with maturity and integrity and serve as a positive role model. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills and have a clear understanding of the concepts, applications, and philosophies of collegiate track and field. Duties may include, but are not limited to, practice planning, recruiting, and other responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.

Primary Responsibilities Plan and implement practices and meet preparation for men’s and women’s throws events Provide technical instruction in all throwing events (weight throw, shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin) Collaborate with the strength and conditioning staff to design and monitor event-specific strength development Assist with recruiting efforts, including identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes, communicating with recruits, and hosting visits Exercise discretion and judgment in decision-making in compliance with NCAA, Conference, and College policies Represent Haverford College in a professional manner in all interactions, including with student-athletes, parents, officials, alumni, and opposing coaches Help enforce team standards related to conduct, training, and travel Assist with program logistics and administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coaches Line of Report: The Assistant Throws Coach, Track and Field, reports to the Head Coach for Men’s Track and Field and the Head Coach for Women’s Track and field.

Preferred Qualifications

First Aid/CPR/AED certification Experience working with college student athletes
