Assistant Superintendent – Foundations & Utilities
**Federal Marine Project | $90K–$115K | Oʻahu, HI** **Overview** The Pearl Harbor Dry Dock Replacement program is a multi-billion-dollar, long-term NAVFAC initiative and one of the most complex marine and heavy civil projects in the Pacific. We are seeking Assistant Superintendents to provide day-to-day field leadership across deep foundations, excavation, shoring, pile driving, dewatering, and underground utilities (water, sewer, storm, fuel, electrical). This role is designed for rising field leaders ready to take the next step into site management. It provides the opportunity to work under seasoned senior superintendents, gain direct exposure to federal quality and safety standards, and grow into a full superintendent role on one of the most critical defense infrastructure programs in Hawaiʻi. **Role Overview** As an Assistant Superintendent, you will play a hands-on role in supporting field operations. You will help coordinate subcontractors and craft labor, monitor progress against daily work plans, and ensure safety and quality requirements are being followed. Working closely with superintendents, project engineers, and QC managers, you will support delivery of foundation and utility scopes safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with NAVFAC and EM 385-1-1 standards. **Key Responsibilities** Field Coordination & Leadership + Support senior superintendents in directing daily activities for foundations and utility crews. + Assist with sequencing of pile driving, shoring, excavation, and dewatering operations. + Help manage subcontractors installing underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage, electrical, fuel). + Track progress against daily schedules and report variances to senior leadership. Safety Oversight + Enforce strict compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and federal site safety standards. + Lead or assist with daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and hazard analyses. + Promote a culture of safe work practices across crews and subcontractors. Quality Control Support + Participate in three-phase QC documentation, inspections, and field tests. + Assist with verification of pile logs, concrete testing, hydrostatic/chlorination testing, CCTV inspections, and utility tie-ins. + Maintain accurate, timely documentation to meet NAVFAC requirements. Logistics & Documentation + Track material deliveries, equipment use, and manpower allocations to ensure efficient field execution. + Maintain daily logs, reports, and schedules, supporting compliance and closeout documentation. + Provide input into work plans, look-ahead schedules, and coordination meetings. Communication & Issue Resolution + Act as a point of contact between field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and inspectors. + Assist in resolving site conflicts quickly to avoid schedule or quality impacts. + Maintain strong, professional communication with project managers, consultants, and Navy stakeholders. **Qualifications** + 5+ years of construction experience, with at least 2–3 years in field leadership (assistant superintendent, foreman, or equivalent). + Hands-on exposure to heavy civil, foundations, or utility scopes required; marine or federal project experience preferred. + Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety standards, or willingness to complete training prior to site assignment. + Ability to read and interpret civil and utility drawings and translate them into daily work plans. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office; scheduling exposure (Primavera P6 or MS Project) a plus. + Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead small crews or specific scopes under supervision. + Local Hawaiʻi construction experience and/or familiarity with federal sites highly valued. + Eligibility for base access to secure facilities is required. **Why This Role?** + Compensation: $90K–$115K depending on experience. + Benefits: PTO, Holidays, Medical/Dental/Vision, 401(k) with employer match. + Career Growth: Gain mentorship from senior superintendents and position yourself for advancement into a full superintendent role. + Exposure: Work on a multi-billion-dollar federal program with foundations, utilities, and marine infrastructure at a scale rarely seen in Hawaiʻi. + Impact: Contribute directly to one of the most important defense infrastructure projects in the Pacific.
