**Job Description**
The Communications and Signaling team is seeking Assistant Superintendents to support our Signaling team's mission to deliver safe and reliable service. Assistant superintendents play a key role on the maintenance team, managing the delivery of scheduled work and problem-solving in emergencies. **Minimum Qualifications**
**Education**
+ Associate's degree or vocational/technical school degree in Engineering or Electronics
**Experience**
+ A minimum of six (6) years of experience performing technical electronics work to include at least four (4) years in a supervisory capacity.
**Certification/Licensure**
+ Valid Driver's License
**Preferred**
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Electronics

**Mission Essential Designation**
In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
**Summary**
The Assistant Superintendent, Communications & Signaling assists with the planning, scheduling, and supervision of the department's maintenance efforts, as well as coordination procedures for support facilities.
**Essential Functions**
+ Assists with administrative supervisory functions such as developing performance plans, evaluating employees' performance against performance plans, assigning and reviewing work, approving leave requests, recommending personnel actions, recommending hires, and ensuring that subordinates adhere to established safety plans and procedures.
+ Assists in supervising the installation, testing, pre-operation systems check-out and the operating maintenance and management of the communications and signals equipment within assigned area.
+ Inspects equipment rooms to ensure cleanliness, and functionally maintained and safe conditions exist.
+ Conducts field inspections to observe operations, maintenance, training and troubleshooting procedures.
+ Assists with investigations into equipment failures, shop and related maintenance area accidents, determining causes and extent of damage to systems and initiate corrective action.
+ Assists in preparation of annual plans and long-range forecasts of maintenance activities relative to engineering design changes, installation and operation, including appropriate budgetary needs
+ Enforces Safety policies in all assigned work areas.
+ Assists in evaluating complaints and grievances with supervisors, employees or their representatives, and attempts resolution, in accordance with sound employee relations practices.
**Other Functions**
+ Attends meetings and seminars related to functional responsibilities.
+ Maintains check on work progress, recommending improvements in work methods, techniques and ensuring timely repair of equipment.
+ Assists in establishing work schedules.
+ May operate an Authority vehicle to support job responsibilities.
+ Assist in the development of reports to include system defect reports, shift reports, and other reports as required.
+ Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
