Main responsibilities:

Lead and champion corporate and division customer service programs, fostering a culture of excellent customer service throughout the store.  Oversee total store operations and direct employees and department managers when acting in place of the Store Director.  Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Grocery Department, including frozen, dairy, and liquor/beer, ensuring product quality, rotation, sanitation, safety compliance, and in‑stock conditions.  Implement company and division operating and merchandising policies, control shrink, and supervise inventory counts and department procedures.  Order grocery product, maintain inventory levels, supervise reclamation, and ensure organized conditions in the back room and sales floor.  Supervise receiving, stocking, pricing, merchandising, and product signage; support customer and vendor relations.  Direct, train, schedule, and support Grocery Department employees, including participating in hiring and handling performance management.  Review and act on Profit & Loss information to support sales, margin goals, and promotional planning.  Resolve customer complaints, maintain confidentiality, and ensure all work is performed with honesty and integrity in compliance with policies.

Soft skills: 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain composure in customer and coworker interactions.  Effective leadership and interpersonal skills, promoting morale, teamwork, and employee development.  Ability to identify issues, solve problems, and make effective short‑ and long‑term plans.  High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism

Competencies: 

Strong business and financial acumen, including understanding of profit and loss statements.  Knowledge of employment laws, workplace practices, and company policies.  Ability to supervise, motivate, evaluate, and develop staff at multiple levels. Competency in planning, organizing, and executing operational processes.

Knowledge: 

Extensive retail background with management experience in retail operations. Knowledge of store departments, product handling, inventory management, and merchandising standards.  Familiarity with basic math, accounting, computer software, and compliance with state and federal regulations.  Knowledge of emergency plans and safety protocols.

Abilities: 

Ability to perform manual tasks when needed (lifting up to ~50 lbs, stocking, walking/standing for long periods).  Ability to operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and cash registers.  Ability to maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and mental alertness in repetitive tasks.  Ability to work across departments and adapt to changing business needs.

Travel requirements: 

Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
