PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Are you ready to step into a key leadership role and drive meaningful improvements in rail operations? As an Assistant Roadmaster, you’ll be charged with ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal condition of track infrastructure across your assigned area. Collaborating with the Roadmaster, you’ll deliver innovative, cost-efficient engineering solutions while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory guidelines. Your expertise will be vital in sustaining a safe, high-performing rail network that enables smooth, uninterrupted train service and preserves our infrastructure integrity. You will consistently uphold all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to safety and excellence.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Support the Roadmaster in enforcing CPKC safety practices, policies, and procedures among all direct reports Contribute to achieving compliance, service, and financial outcomes Oversee, coordinate, or execute emergency responses to service disruptions within the geographic territory, while maintaining and implementing seasonal plans for winter, spring floods, and fire management Manage employees according to the terms of the collective agreement and resolve disputes or grievances as necessary Gather and document information to aid in establishing annual and multi-year capital planning priorities Oversee quality assurance for Track Programs and Equipment (TP&E) projects Ensure CPKC is aligned with all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory processes
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or general equivalency Valid driver’s license 2+ years of previous railroad experience in track maintenance & renewal Minimum of 1 year experience leading track renewal crews such as rail tie crews Proficiency of railway track safety rules Application of the collective bargaining agreement Provide occasional on-call rotation and support for emergency response on a rotating cycle (likely every other week) to support 24/7 operations

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
