The Department of Public Health in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Public Health with a focus on biostatistics in public health to begin in Fall 2026. URI’s Department of Public Health (https://web.uri.edu/public-health/) has a robust undergraduate program (-350 undergraduate students) and is launching a new graduate program (Master of Public Health) in Fall 2025. The department is housed within the College of Health Sciences (https://web.uri.edu /chs), home to seven departments, 2,460 undergraduate students and 264 graduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to:

Teach biostatistics and applied data analysis related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Publish research using quantitative methods within the scope of public health.


Mentor and advise students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Seek and secure external funding that will support productive research.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and service activities.
Qualifications

Required:

1. Earned doctorate in quantitative methods with specialization in public health conferred by December 31, 2025.

2. Demonstrated research experience using quantitative methods in public health based on publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.

3. Demonstrated ability to establish an independent line of research in biostatistics in public health.

4. Demonstrated teaching experience at the graduate and/or undergraduate level in applied biostatistics with an emphasis on public health.

5. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups/populations (not limited to race, ethnicity, and gender).

6. Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.

Preferred:

1. Demonstrated ability to secure external funding.

2. Demonstrated ability to participate in collaborative research.

3. Postdoctoral experience.
