Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity beginning September 1, 2026 for an academic year (9 month) appointment. This on-campus position focuses on teaching and advancing an applied cybersecurity program while supporting student engagement, academic quality, and institutional cybersecurity initiatives.
The salary for Assistant Professor is $64,711. A University of Maine System transfer rate may be considered in accordance with UMS policies. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to):
+ Deliver a minimum of four courses, or equivalent, per semester at both introductory and advanced levels, employing a blend of modalities (competency-based, online, hyflex, in-person).
+ Actively contribute to the academic community through campus and professional service endeavors.
+ Assist in the development, instruction, and administration of Cybersecurity curriculum with an applied focus.
+ Develop initiatives that involve undergraduate students, potentially leading to internships, independent projects, or conference presentations/publications, and contribute to existing cybersecurity initiatives.
+ Serve as the alternate point of contact for CAE-CD and assist the Cybersecurity Program Director in preparing accreditation/reaccreditation materials.
+ Serve as the alternate point of contact for the UMPI Virtualization Lab and the UMPI Cyber Center website.
Required Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Cybersecurity or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD status and Master's degrees may be considered in combination with significant professional experience or recognition in a related field.
+ Demonstrated successful experience in teaching cybersecurity courses at the collegiate level.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with the campus, local, and regional communities.
+ Demonstrated ability to engage in research/publication, conference presentations, or other professional development activities in area(s) of expertise.
+ A willingness to travel occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 5 or more years of teaching experience at a CAE-CD accredited institution.
+ Valid CISSP certification.
+ Valid OSCP or other offensive security/penetration testing certification.
+ Other advanced certifications issued by (ISC)2, GIAC, or other certifying bodies.
+ Demonstrated experience in delivering competency-based instruction and/or online instruction.
+ Demonstrated experience with virtualization technologies and/or experience working with cyber ranges.
