J ob Description :
The clinical pathologist or qualified laboratory director will be responsible for providing administrative, operational, technical, and quality oversight and addressing relevant clinical issues related to the assigned laboratory( ies ) or assigned section(s) of the laboratory ( i.e. microbiology , etc.) . The clinical pathologist or PhD laboratory director (assistant, or associate directors included) works in conjunction with appropriate colleagues and designees and will ensure the laboratory fulfill s all articles of compliance, turn-around-times, quality measures, and diagnostic excellence. The clinical pathologist or PhD laboratory director will participate in faculty , fellow, and resident education, and scholarship development . Clinical pathology function may occur at the UHealth Tower (UHT), Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), and UHealth network sites, as well as Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH ) and Jackson Health system network sites as assigned .
Qualifications:
Must be an M.D or D.O. who is Board Certified in Clinical Pathology or Board Certified in a Clinical Pathology subspecialty, or a PhD who is fellowship trained and with professional Board or Certification for their subspecialty ( i.e. hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology) .
Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida or have a Laboratory Director’s license in the State of Florida in their subspecialty ( i.e. hematology, immunology, chemistry and microbiology) if applicable .
List of Responsibilities:
+ Follow CLIA regulation. As laboratory director or delegee or designee as applicable, ensure that:
+ T esting systems in the laboratory provide quality services in all aspects of test performance, i.e., the preanalytic , analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing and are appropriate for the patient population;
+ P hysical and environmental conditions of the laboratory are adequate and appropriate for the testing performed;
+ T he environment for employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and safety and biohazard requirements are followed;
+ A general supervisor (high complexity testing) is available to provide day-to-day supervision of all testing personnel and reporting of test results as well as provide on-site supervision for specific minimally qualified testing personnel when they are performing high complexity testing;
+ Sufficient numbers of appropriately educated, experienced, and/or trained personnel who provide appropriate consultation , properly supervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results in accordance with the written duties and responsibilities specified by you, are employed by the laboratory
+ New test procedures are reviewed, included in the procedure manual and followed by personnel; and each employee’s responsibilities and duties are specified in writing.
+ Ensure that all delegated responsibilities if applicable are performed
+ Be accessible to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation
+ Ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented
+ Make certain that personnel are trained to ensure accurate results
Ensure that an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratory is available
+ M aintain JCAHO/CAP/CLIA or other relevant accreditation s as applicable
+ Participate in the educational curriculum in clinical pathology for residents, fellows, and medical students
+ Participate in utilization of laboratory testing or services
+ Develop and participate in Diagnostic Management Teams if applicable
+ Academically productive with scholarly activities
+ Provides professional expertise and teaching in the field relevant to the position.
+ Facilitate the educational programs from undergraduate through graduate medical education in the field relevant to the position.
+ Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to protocols, and timely delivery of results.
+ Establish and maintain quality control and assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and precision of test results.
+ Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff competence in operating equipment, performing tests, and following laboratory protocols.
+ Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and other applicable accrediting bodies.
+ Lead efforts to continuously improve laboratory operations, efficiency, and service quality.
