**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
The Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, CUNY, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Film Production to join our department in Spring 2026. Candidates must have strengths in narrative filmmaking, including directing, and a specialization in one or more of the following: cinematography, editing, sound recording and design, producing or screenwriting.
Responsibilities include teaching all levels of undergraduate film production and our large lecture class “Film and Media in a Digital Age,” supervising graduate student lab instructors for that class, advising honors projects, mentoring a diverse student body, and participating in curricular development as well as other service to the department and college. The workload is 18 assignable hours per year, which is typically a 3-3 course load. The position requires maintaining an active record of creative work.

The Department of Film & Media Studies has approximately 650 full-time students majoring in two programs of study at the undergraduate level: one in Film combining film history and theory with such creative areas as screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing; the other in Media Studies integrating critical media analysis with creative practice using a mix of contemporary expressive forms including documentary filmmaking, TV production, journalism, digital imaging and animation, physical computing and game programming. The department faculty promotes advanced scholarship and creative expression, seeks to have a positive impact on the diverse communities we serve, and fosters the success of our students in their academic studies and as innovative writers and artists. The department also offers a nationally recognized MFA in Integrated Media Arts that seeks to educate multi-disciplinary media professionals who are socially engaged and creatively fluent across contemporary and emerging digital media platforms.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
MFA or terminal degree in Film/Media Production (or related field) by appointment date; significant record of narrative filmmaking with national/international exhibition or distribution; and the ability to teach across creative and technical areas. College-level teaching experience required.
**COMPENSATION**
Compensation is commensurate with experience within the range of $70,815- $98,995.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
