With an established reputation for promoting a materially diverse, urban-oriented, socially engaged architectural education, including a pre-professional undergraduate degree in Architecture, a professional accredited Master of Architecture, the Center for Public Interest Design, and strong ties to local design practice, we offer a rigorous educational experience in the ideal setting of downtown Portland. Position Summary Portland State University wishes to hire a full-time Assistant Professor in Architecture to teach courses in Tectonics, Building Construction, and Materials. Candidates will be expected to embrace the culture of making at the heart of our pedagogy through creative teaching strategies in design studios while bringing critical perspectives and innovative practices to lectures and seminars. Primary Activity I - Instructional Minimum Qualifications At minimum candidates must have a master’s degree in architecture and professional experience.
Candidates should demonstrate tangible instructional experience in teaching situations, including architectural design studio, with the equivalent of at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated expertise and record in hands-on making and material explorations. Special consideration also given to those who are licensed as architects. Key Cultural Competencies Creates an environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates differences. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be $76,239 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
