Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment (CFA), Pulmonary Medicine
MD Anderson
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to provide outstanding clinical expertise including patient care management related to out-patient clinics at the main campus of MD Anderson. To provide services that contribute to the daily operation of Pulmonary Medicine through superlative clinical judgment, active participation in educational endeavors and independent decision making.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Clinical
• Provide clinical expertise in patient care management in the clinic.
• Practice in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, the American College of Physicians and specialty societies.
• Independently assumes responsibility for outpatient clinical services: consultations, new patient evaluations, initiation of appropriate referrals, and follow-up/ surveillance.
• Completes patient documentation for medical records including dictation, according to institutional and departmental policies.
• Attends or video conferences into regularly scheduled conferences and special programs including departmental meetings, grand rounds, HALs interdisciplinary rounds, pathology conferences, etc.
• Meets institutional requirements for submission of electronic orders and documentation of same.
• Provides thorough history and physical patient examinations.
• Identifies and submits in a timely fashion the proper ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT billing codes for all aspects of patient care based on timelines defined by Institutional policy.
• Corresponds as appropriate in writing or by telephone conversations with referring physicians and other health care providers regarding patient care and treatment.
• Request appropriate consultations for patients in writing or by telephone.
• Participates in peer review of the clinical practice of faculty within the department.
• Pursue an academic approach to patients seen and to the practice of this subspecialty.
Administration (Departmental)
• Serve on institutional and other committees as requested.
• Attends faculty and other departmental or divisional meetings.
Research
• Provide active participation and collaboration with the departments research programs.
• Provide active participation in the development and execution of clinical trial protocols.
• Actively engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department and personal career development.
Education
• Actively participates in an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students on assignment to the department of Pulmonary Medicine.
• Attend and actively participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
• Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
