Principal Accountabilities:
Job Function: 02. Coordinates with Director/ Manager in maintaining a safe environment of care. Criteria: Assists in maintaining a therapeutic safe unit in accordance with regulatory bodies, such as The Joint Commission, etc.
Job Function: 03 Collaborates with the Director/ Manager in areas of daily operational and strategic needs. Anticipates the needs for staff efficiency according to volume variations.

Job Function: 05. Actively interfaces & assists in maintaining a collaborative relationship and open communication between physicians, team members, management, administration, and other units and programs. Represents the Unit Manager/ Director when providing on-shift leadership and coordination to meet the immediate and changing needs of all customers. Able to demonstrate ability/knowledge of problem solving in complex situations.
Job Function: 06. Coordinates with Director/ Manager in maintaining unit fiscal management. Criteria: Works with staff to assist Director/ Manager in ensuring that budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are implemented and adhered to. Communicates with Director/ Manager regarding ways to reduce and control expenses, as well as to enhance revenues. In the absence of the Director/ Manager, posts and/or approves payroll. Coordinates the ordering of needed supplies with unit associate and notifies the Director/ Manager when appropriate. Acts as resource to all staff to troubleshoot and maintain unit equipment. Able to assume super-user status when implementing new processes/equipment.
Job Function: 07. Participates in Performance Improvement. Identifies processes, which are in need of change and refers them to the appropriate person. Assists in the development and implementation of the unit-based Performance Improvement Program. Incorporates the evidence-based practice and performance improvement philosophies in all actions. Supports, implements, promotes, and coordinates projects and programs.
Job Function: 08. Monitors, guides, supports and directs staff as indicated to achieve unit based and organizational goals including hospital associated conditions (HAC) and patient experience.
Job Function: 09. Assumes shared responsibility in annual performance appraisals of unit personnel. Criteria: Shares responsibility for writing and conducting staff Performance Appraisals as directed by the Director/Manager. Provides recommendation and documentation to Director/Manager concerning the hiring, termination and promotions of staff members as well as monitoring, identifying and counseling personnel in job-related issues utilizing the progressive disciplinary process. Acts as a positive role model for staff by maintaining a neat and professional appearance and promoting professional nursing practice. Provides clinical and behavioral guidance to staff as the situation arises. As part of the annual performance appraisal process, submits a list of year end accomplishments as well as goals that are reviewed and mutually agreed upon for the coming year.
Job Function 10: In collaboration with the leadership team, participates in the development and recruitment of team members. Meets regulatory, licensure, annual competency and mandatory requirements. Strives to grow through continuous professional development and participation in various committees. Maintains professional competency through participation in continuing education. Participates in performance improvement/patient safety activities. Implements and monitors action plan relating to OMC/AHS surveys or units’ findings. Initiates independent decisions with regard to staff requests. Serves as a resource person for the staff within and outside of the department.
Job Function 11: Collaborates with Director/Manager, unit-based shared governance council (UBSG), and Nurse Educator/Clinical Specialist in meeting units’ educational needs Criteria: Serves as a clinical resource to the health care team, patients, and their families. Acts as a mentor/preceptor. Facilitates and engages in effective problem-solving using available resources, including nursing staff, nurse managers, physicians, and other health care personnel. Serves on interdepartmental committees and task forces and acts as unit liaison as requested. Promotes the implementation and practice of Standards of Care in conjunction with USBG. Takes a supportive role in hospital-wide Shared Governance and actively participates in USBG activities. Promotes advancing education, professional specialty certification, and professional advancement.
Job Function 12: Facilitates patient admissions and transfers. Establishes a pleasant work atmosphere that focuses on teamwork and recognition of individual excellence and individual customer needs. Demonstrates sound decision-making ability and flexibility regarding the needs of patients, families and staff members. Encourages and promotes high standards of patient care. Participates in the systematic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of processes and desired outcomes. Delegates responsibility to others appropriately.
Job Function 13: Maintains safe environment. Criteria: Adheres to OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health and hospital standards. Keeps accurate and updates defibrillator crash cart and Omni cell system maintenance. Observes and maintains isolation precautions. Follows hand washing protocol. Utilizes appropriate resources in clarification of safe and effective use of equipment. adhering to Patient Safety Goals. Maintains a clean and clutter free work environment. Uses and stores equipment properly. Checks expiration dates to ensure medication and equipment are safe for use.
Job Function 14: Response to Emergency Situations. Criteria: Recognizes emergency situations and immediately institutes proper procedure. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of emergency equipment and implementation of emergency procedures. Works appropriately with coworkers during emergency situations. Utilizes Rapid Response Team and Code Gray appropriately.

Effectively communicates management decisions to achieve understanding and acceptance. Is open to suggestions and new ideas. Displays sound negotiations skills. Effectively uses the Peer Review process and encourages staff to do the same. Collaborates with physician and allied health colleagues to ensure service excellence.
