As an Assistant Meat Manager, you’ll support daily operations within the Meat Department, help lead a skilled team, and ensure customers receive high‑quality products and exceptional service. This role is ideal for someone with experience in meat cutting, meat department operations, retail grocery, or supervisory roles looking to grow into leadership.
Main responsibilities:
Support all aspects of daily Meat Department operations, including product quality, freshness, rotation, and food safety. Supervise and assist Meat Cutters, Meat Clerks, and department associates to ensure great service and consistent standards. Help meet department goals, including sales, gross profit, labor, shrink, and inventory accuracy. Perform meat cutting, wrapping, stocking, and merchandising tasks as needed. Uphold company policies, department standards, and customer satisfaction expectations. Take charge of the department in the Meat Manager’s absence, including supervising 2–20 associates. Assist with staffing decisions, team scheduling, task assignments, and training. Support and reinforce safe work practices and proper equipment use. Build strong customer relationships by delivering friendly, knowledgeable, solution‑driven service. Perform additional duties and department support as needed.We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Soft skills: Strong leadership and coaching ability Excellent customer service skills Clear, professional communication Ability to stay organized in a fast‑paced environment Sound decision‑making and problem‑solving skills Competencies: Experience in meat cutting, meat preparation, grocery retail, or department‑level supervision Understanding of merchandising, rotation, and product presentation Ability to lead and motivate associates Comfort with basic computer and scheduling tasks Knowledge: Meat department operations and product handling Food safety and sanitation practices Retail selling and customer engagement techniques Department policies and operational standards Abilities: Lift, bend, twist, and perform repetitive tasks Work in varied temperature environments (cooler, freezer, sales floor) Lead a team in a fast‑paced department with shifting priorities Provide hands‑on support when performing cutting or stocking tasks Educational requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Travel requirements: Occasional travel for training or development Other requirements: Must be at least 18 years old Full‑time availability, including peak business times Ability to maintain safety, accuracy, and quality standardsWe also provide a variety of benefits including:

Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on the length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits pension and/or 401(k) eligibility.
