Job Title: Ceded Reinsurance Accountant / Reinsurance Accounting SpecialistLocation: New York, NY
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Ceded Reinsurance Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for managing the ceded reinsurance book of business, supporting quarterly close activities, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive, with a strong understanding of reinsurance accounting processes and financial reporting requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesCeded Reinsurance Operations
+ Manage the ceded reinsurance book of business, including treaty setup, maintenance, and ongoing administration.
+ Prepare and review reinsurance statements, cash calls, and settlement documentation.
+ Process cash payments and apply cash accurately and timely.
+ Monitor reinsurance balances, investigate discrepancies, and perform analytical reviews.
Quarterly Reporting & Analysis
+ Perform quarterly variance analysis, including period‑over‑period comparisons.
+ Reconcile subledger activity to the General Ledger and resolve differences.
+ Prepare parent company reporting packages and support corporate reporting requirements.
+ Develop quarterly financial schedules to support close processes and year‑end statutory reporting.
Process Improvement & Controls
+ Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all financial data and reporting.
+ Partner with IT and cross‑functional teams to automate processes and enhance reporting efficiency.
+ Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and strengthen internal controls.
+ Support special projects, audits, and ad hoc reporting as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
+ 5+ years of ceded reinsurance accounting experience.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
+ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis tools).
+ Demonstrated experience with General Ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and financial statement support.
+ Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed reconciliations and variance analysis.
+ Self‑starter with the ability to conduct independent research, identify process improvements, and implement solutions with minimal supervision.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
+ Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Skills
+ Experience with reinsurance systems or financial reporting tools.
+ Knowledge of statutory reporting requirements.
+ Familiarity with automation tools or process‑improvement methodologies.

This is a Permanent position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
