Assistant Manager, Cardiology

Responsible for assisting the manager in overseeing the operations, resources, and staff associated with cardiac services to ensure the delivery of top-quality patient care. Establishes efficient processes by monitoring resources, patient flow, and customer service, as needed. Develops policies and procedures relevant to department safety and operations in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities:
Plans, organizes and evaluates the daily and long-term operations of the outpatient cardiac imaging sites. Establishes productivity levels that reflect volume, safety, quality and efficiency. Ensures patient satisfaction and efficiency of operation. Assists in enforcing mandated policies and requirements and prepared statistical data for accrediting agencies. Works cooperatively with other department members in the scheduling of diagnostic procedures. Makes independent decisions and initiates work when needed. Originates own ideas for adapting to changing environment. Voluntarily seeks other duties within the department when own duties are completed. Monitors utilization of supplies, equipment and staffing. Collaborates with Medical Director and Administrative Director on capital needs for individual imaging sites equipment. Coordinates staffing patterns to meet the needs of the Imaging Sites. Assures proper planning and adequate staffing schedules for all procedures.
Performs comprehensive cardiac examinations. Uses sound anatomical, physiological and pathophysiological principals. Performs a short cardiovascular history prior to the examination to ensure appropriate testing performed. Contacts the referring physician promptly to clarify ambiguous situations. Follows established departmental protocols when planning and executing cardiovascular testing examinations. Assures adequate safety measures throughout testing procedures. Performs preliminary interpretation of lab results. Responds in a positive manner during high volume or short staffing situations.
Completes clerical tasks associated with cardiovascular examinations. Completes all information on appropriate testing forms by the end of the day. Completes all information on appropriate log by the end of the day. Completes all reading associated tasks following formal reading of the examinations promptly. Follows department's protocols.
Establishes new policy and procedures in accordance with hospital guidelines and licensing standards. Maintains and updates policy and procedure manual for Cardiac Imaging Sites. Develops diagnostic scheduling policy. Develops medical data collection forms in collaboration with Medical Director. Learns new procedures to help instruct and educate others. Observes all departmental policies and procedures showing motivation and enthusiasm with regard to daily activities and new policies.
Observes and evaluates equipment function in the laboratory. Notifies service representative, Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and evaluation of equipment problems. Schedules preventative maintenance of equipment on a regular basis. Recommends purchase of new equipment to Manager and Medical Director. Develops policy for assessment and daily evaluation of all equipment. Ensures that equipment and carts are cleaned daily according to department Infection Control Policy.
Ensures that patient, family, staff and students educational needs are met. Reviews with the Educational Director evaluations of all educational programs and in-services. Updates with the Educational Director educational needs to insure new technologies and trends. Provides preceptor rotations for all CVT students. Provides didactic instruction for School of Cardiovascular Technology as requested.
Plans, initiates, monitors, and evaluates department Continuous Quality Improvement program. Recognizes departments strengths and weaknesses. Ensures staff participation in quality improvement. Collaborates with staff in implementing change.
Ensures effective communication intra/inter departmentally. Participates on committees and projects as requested. Conducts staff meetings, listens and coaches effectively and responds to needs efficiently. Maintains pleasant and informative manner in communicating with patients, physicians and staff members. Collaborates with physicians in assessing department’s needs. Listens and is receptive to new ideas and suggestions.
Pursues personal/professional growth. Identifies opportunities to upgrade personal/professional growth. Attends in-services, conferences, staff meetings and supervisor meetings. Reads current literature and suggests new and/or changing techniques and informs others of new quality procedures.
Travel between imaging centers mandatory.
Required:
1. Associate degree in healthcare administration or related field.
2. Minimum 4 years of experience in Cardiology or relevant area.
3. BLS certification.
4. ARDMS and/or CCI certifications.
Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, or related field.
2. Graduate of an accredited CVT School.
