Assistant Grocery Manager
Job Description Position Summary

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily grocery department operations. This role helps ensure merchandising standards, inventory management, ordering accuracy, shrink reduction, and exceptional customer service. The Assistant Grocery Manager provides leadership to clerks, supports department scheduling, and maintains a clean, organized, and fully stocked department that aligns with company standards and sales goals.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Department Leadership Deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt service to all customers. Support the Grocery Manager in supervising and directing grocery associates. Assist in training new and existing employees on department procedures, product knowledge, and customer service. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards. Merchandising & In‑Stock Management Maintain well-stocked shelves and visually appealing displays. Ensure planograms, schematics, and merchandising programs are executed correctly. Support seasonal, promotional, and ad‑driven merchandising sets. Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and code‑date compliance. Inventory, Ordering & Shrink Control Assist with ordering product to maintain appropriate inventory levels and meet sales demands. Help manage backroom organization, product flow, and receiving accuracy. Monitor shrink trends and assist in implementing waste‑reduction and loss‑prevention procedures. Ensure accurate tagging, pricing, and signage throughout the department. Store Conditions & Safety Maintain a clean, safe, and organized grocery department. Ensure adherence to food safety standards and sanitation requirements. Address equipment issues promptly and escalate when necessary. Administrative Support Assist with scheduling, time‑and‑attendance monitoring, and labor management. Help prepare for inspections, audits, and department reviews. Support daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as directed by the Grocery Manager. Qualifications Previous grocery or retail experience preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to lead, coach, and motivate team members. Basic proficiency in store systems, ordering tools, and Microsoft applications. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry product as required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods. Ability to safely lift moderate to heavy items (per company safety guidelines). Comfortable working in coolers, backrooms, and warehouse‑style environments.
