Assistant Grocery Manager
Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service. Assist customers by offering product suggestions and solutions. Utilize suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone interactions, in‑store announcements, and one‑on‑one engagement. Answer and respond appropriately to incoming calls; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when necessary. Store Leadership & Operational Support Serve as the leader responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description). Assist with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes in alignment with company procedures and profitability goals. Possess comprehensive knowledge of all department functions, including Opening/Closing duties, Dairy, and Frozen. Merchandising, Display & Store Standards Build grocery displays; rotate product and remove outdated or spoiled items. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and the overall department. Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays. Assist with coordinating grocery sales promotions. Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and that shelves are clean, organized, and maintained. Follow and maintain all required department standards. Staff Leadership & Training Monitor employee productivity and performance. May schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees. Train staff in store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements. Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook. Inventory, Stocking & Shrink Control Prepare sales and inventory reports; complete physical inventory every six months. Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness in accordance with division directives. Stock, rotate, and maintain grocery products. Assist with ordering grocery items and maintaining inventory levels per division guidelines. Supervise reclamation processing and maintain organized, in‑stock conditions in the back room and all grocery areas. Control shrink and manage costs. Equipment, Safety & Receiving Implement correct product preparation techniques. Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines. Perform receiving duties, including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, and rotating stock.
