Qualifications:

Required:

BSN from an accredited schoolMust complete a minimum of 8 hours per year of professional development focused hospital wide leadership issuesStrong communication and organizational skillsProficient Computer Skills

Preferred:

MSN from an accredited school2 3 years of experience as an Operating Room RNSupervisory ExperienceMaintains current BEST training; obtains within 3 months of initial assignment

Certifications and Licenses Required:

CNOR Certification preferredActive NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsementBLS from the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

Day Shift, 40 hoursMonday Friday, every other weekend and holiday rotation if applicableFull Time

Essential Functions:

Provides 24 hour accountability for patient care delivery

Ensures that quality nursing care is delivered to all patients on his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital

Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education

Evaluates staff performance in accordance with organizational policies

Develops, implements and maintains unit budget,

Participates in nursing quality assurance

Maintains unit administration including scheduling and maintains of supplies and equipment

Uses and understands the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care

Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services

Promotes quality of patient care through the following: Develops or revises plan for patient care delivery in assigned areas; Identifies and corrects actual or potential problems; Recommends or selects appropriate indicators to measure performance; Implements and enforces the national patient safety goals; Communicates QA and PI findings as required.

Other Duties:

The Director in conjunction with the Assistant Director, is responsible for the function of the department, ensures that those under his/her supervision adhere to the goals and objectives of the department in accordance with its policies and procedures. Contributes to and supports the mission, vision and values of the department and organizations. Assists with the development of policies and procedures for the department, maintains high visibility on the unit and is a clinical resource person who acts as a role model for the staff on the designated area. The Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining the continuity of patient flow, provides a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
