Job Overview: This is a Full-time, Assistant Director Pharmacist role based within the Pharmacy Department of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center located in Livingston, NJ. The Assistant Director supports the Pharmacy Director in overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy department. This role ensures efficient, safe, and compliant medication management practices while fostering a patient-centered, teaching-focused environment. The Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in enhancing pharmacy services, supporting interprofessional education, and advancing operational excellence to meet the needs of both the local community and academic mission. Qualifications: Required: + Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD + Minimum of 5 years of hospital experience with 2 years of Pharmacy Management experience in an inpatient hospital setting + NJBOP Immunization licensure, within 6 months Preferred: + Strong financial acumen + Minimum 1 year experience in sterile compounding + Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certifications and Licenses Required: + Registration in New Jersey as a pharmacist; current New Jersey licensure required and must be in good standing with NJBOP Scheduling Requirements: + FT + 5 hours/week + Rotated on-call responsibilities Essential Functions: + Support the Director in managing all pharmacy operations, including inpatient, outpatient, and decentralized services + Stands in for the Director as appropriate + Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards, which includes The Joint Commission, NJBOP, DOH, DEA and participates in regulatory reviews and audits + Oversee inventory management, automation systems, medication procurement, and cost containment strategies + Manages the diversion prevention program and monitors controlled substance reviews and audits + Supervise pharmacy staff and promote a collaborative, high-performance culture + Coordinate daily workflow to ensure timely medication dispensing, delivery, and clinical support + Facilitate staff development through education, competency assessments, and performance evaluations + Lead and participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and operational efficiency initiatives, both locally and corporately + Serve as a preceptor and mentor to pharmacy students and residents, supporting experiential education programs + Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, productivity review, and operational reporting + Membership on committees within the medical center and corporately + Act as liaison to nursing, medical staff, and academic partners on pharmacy-related matters, + Reports to the Director of Pharmacy and manages a team of 6 Other Duties: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice RWJBarnabas Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer
