Minimum Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field + Three to five years demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and developing content focusing on athletics with strong knowledge of public/media relations' principles, practices and techniques and meeting deadlines + Outstanding visual and verbal communication skills, self-motivated and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment + Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and multi-tasking skills; strong interpersonal skills in working with university officials, coaches, student athletes, external media professionals, student workers and others in a professional manner + Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (lnDesign, Photoshop) and statistical programs (StatCrew, NC Live STATS); photography, graphics, and developing social media content are preferred + Willingness to stay current with trends in technology and media strategies as they emerge Job Duties and Other Information Broadcasting: + Serve as play-by-play broadcaster for Northwestern State athletics on KZBL (Baldridge-Dumas Communications) both home and away + Record promotional spots on BOC stations to advertise NSU athletic and athletic department events + Travel to and broadcast select road games, conference tournaments and potential national postseason events + Potential exists for usage on Northwestern State produced ESPN+ broadcasts Sports Information: + Assist the Sports Information Director in publicity and promotional efforts for the university's NCAA Division I Athletic programs, strengthening relationships with media outlets and monitoring trends in media coverage + Write and distribute content for assigned athletic teams or student athletes and meet deadlines whether working from the SID office or at remote locations + Assist in maintaining and creating content for the NSU athletics websites, social media outlets, and other avenues for positively promoting NSU athletics and assist in preparing for and scheduling interviews, radio broadcast and/or televising of games + Create material for publications, media guides, game programs, promotional fliers and materials using desktop publishing software + Assist in directing graduate assistants, interns and student workers and help manage office equipment and supplies + Assist athletics staff with home event management, serve as host for visiting media and assist in managing and promoting alumni events, including press box operations and statistics compilation + Other duties as assigned Benefits for unclassified employees are determined by the individual hiring authority.
