The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing the resort’s engineering operations, building systems, facilities, equipment, grounds, and preventative maintenance programs. This role helps ensure the safety, appearance, reliability, and long-term integrity of Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino.
The Assistant Director provides visible, hands-on leadership to the Engineering team and partners closely with hotel leadership, operational departments, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies. This position balances daily operational needs with preventative maintenance, project coordination, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency, and colleague development.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**
• Assist the Director of Engineering with the daily leadership and operation of the Engineering Department.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, mechanical systems, equipment, grounds, and resort facilities.
• Supervise, coach, schedule, and develop Engineering colleagues while maintaining strong standards of safety, accountability, productivity, and guest service.
• Coordinate and monitor preventative maintenance programs to support equipment reliability, asset preservation, and operational continuity.
• Respond to guest concerns, work orders, emergencies, and urgent operational needs in a timely and professional manner.
• Conduct property inspections and follow up on maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and quality concerns.
• Support departmental budgeting, purchasing, inventory control, labor management, and expense monitoring.
• Assist with capital projects, renovations, repairs, installations, and other property improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, inspectors, and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to hotel standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, life-safety standards, environmental requirements, and local, state, and federal regulations.
• Support utility management, energy conservation, sustainability, and efficiency initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records related to inspections, maintenance, work orders, equipment, permits, vendors, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, Food and Beverage, Spa, and other departments to support hotel operations and the guest experience.
• Assume departmental leadership responsibilities in the Director of Engineering’s absence.
• Remain available to respond to property emergencies and critical operational needs as required.
**Qualifications:**
• Three or more years of progressive experience in hotel engineering, facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field preferred.
• Previous supervisory or management experience in a hotel, resort, commercial facility, or similar environment preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, life-safety systems, and preventative maintenance.
• Experience coordinating repairs, vendors, contractors, inspections, and maintenance projects.
• Understanding of workplace safety, building codes, regulatory compliance, and emergency response procedures.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple operational needs in a fast-paced resort environment.
• Experience with maintenance management systems, work-order platforms, and standard business software preferred.
• Applicable trade licenses, technical certifications, or formal education in engineering, facilities management, or a related field preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
**WORKING CONDITIONS:**
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and move throughout the property for extended periods.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as needed.
· Ability to access mechanical rooms, rooftops, ladders, crawl spaces, and confined spaces when required.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions, including winter conditions.
· Ability to respond to emergencies and operational needs during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
