Position OverviewSt. Mary Academy – Bay View is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director of Athletics & Head Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach to join our team. This is a 12-month leadership position within the Athletic Department that combines administrative responsibilities with the opportunity to lead our varsity basketball program.
As Assistant Director of Athletics, the successful candidate will help oversee daily operations of Bay View Athletics, with key responsibilities in travel coordination, external facility rentals, game-day supervision, scheduling, equipment oversight, and departmental communications. In addition, this role will provide leadership and oversight for all Bay View athletic camps and clinics, including planning, scheduling, staffing, registration, promotion, and evaluation. Camps and clinics are a critical component of Bay View Athletics—serving both as a community engagement tool that strengthens relationships with prospective students and families and as an important revenue stream that supports the financial sustainability of the program. The Assistant AD will work closely with the Director of Athletics to ensure these initiatives align with the school’s mission and growth goals.
As Head Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach, the candidate will plan, direct, and supervise all aspects of the program in accordance with RIIL, Athletic Department, and school policies. The coach will mentor student-athletes, foster skill development, and build a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The basketball season runs from December to March, with practices typically held five to six days per week after school, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. or 4:30–6:30 p.m., and with two to three games per week usually scheduled at 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.
Examples of Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssistant Director of Athletics Responsibilities
Coordinate team travel logistics and transportation schedules. Manage external facility rentals and serve as liaison with partner organizations. Provide game-day supervision for home events and oversee event staff. Assist the Director of Athletics with administrative projects and initiatives. Support scheduling of practices, games, and officials. Oversee equipment and uniform inventory across sports programs. Ensure compliance with RIIL regulations and school policies. Assist with department communications, including parent updates, event promotion, and social media. Lead the planning, promotion, and execution of all athletic camps and clinics, ensuring high-quality programming that enhances community engagement, fosters future student recruitment, and contributes to athletic department revenue growth. Collaborate on special events such as senior nights, awards banquets, and alumni/booster activities. Mentor student-athletes and coaches, promoting a positive, inclusive athletic culture.Head Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach Responsibilities
Organize, coach, and administer the Varsity Basketball Program. Teach and model strong basketball fundamentals, emphasizing safety and sportsmanship. Develop and adapt practice plans and game strategies. Enforce accountability, discipline, and respect within the program. Provide leadership and guidance to assistant coaches. Submit an end-of-season report to the Athletic Department.Qualifications Commitment to the mission of St. Mary Academy – Bay View and to the development of student-athletes. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Comprehensive knowledge of basketball with the ability to teach individual and team skills. Prior experience in athletics administration, event management, or operations preferred. Previous varsity-level coaching or collegiate playing experience strongly preferred. NFHS Certification (or willingness to obtain), including CPR/First Aid/AED. Must pass a national background check with fingerprints.
