**Job Summary**
The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Career Coach is an integral position within the Athletic Department, reporting directly to the Assistant Athletic Director of Alumni Engagement and Career. This role supports the vision of the Assistant Athletic Director, involving close collaboration with both Athletic Development and the University Alumni Association, while focusing on maintaining and tracking relationships with student-athlete alumni. A key responsibility will be managing the Graham Family Wolverine Career Network, a platform designed to connect current student-athletes with alumni for career mentorship, networking, and job opportunities, and preparing student-athletes for careers after sports.
This position plays a vital role in fostering strong, long-term connections between current student-athletes and alumni, contributing to the career development of future graduates while also strengthening the overall alumni engagement strategy within the Athletic Department. The Assistant Director will also be involved in data tracking, event planning, and providing critical support to ensure the success of initiatives that benefit both alumni and current student-athletes.
By acting as a liaison between various stakeholders, athletic staff, alumni, and the broader Michigan Athletics community, the Assistant Director helps further the mission of the Athletic Department and enhances the career success and alumni engagement of student-athletes.
**Responsibilities***
+ **Alumni Relations and Support:**
+ Assist in building and maintaining strong alumni relationships, fostering a network of professionals who can support current student-athletes' career development.
+ Coordinate and monitor alumni job postings to connect graduates with career opportunities in athletics and related fields.
+ **External Alumni Collaboration:**
+ Facilitate partnerships with alumni for mentorship, career advice, networking opportunities, and potential job leads for student-athletes.
+ Manage communications with alumni to promote engagement through various channels, such as newsletters, social media, and direct outreach.
+ **Administrative and Operational Support:**
+ Provide ongoing administrative support for the alumni engagement operations, including scheduling meetings, managing data, and organizing documents.
+ Maintain organized records of alumni interactions, job postings, and career center events.
+ **Event Planning and Coordination:**
+ Assist in the planning and execution of career-related events throughout the academic year, such as alumni networking nights, career fairs, guest speaker events, and workshops.
+ Help with logistics, promotion, and follow-up for these events to ensure maximum engagement and success.
+ **Graham Family Wolverine Career Network Management:**
+ Oversee the Athletic Department's Graham Family Wolverine Career Network platform, ensuring it is effectively utilized by both current student-athletes and alumni.
+ Provide support for users navigating the platform, troubleshoot issues, and encourage active participation from both students and alumni.
+ **Student-Centered Focus:**
+ Collaborate with the Graham Family Athletic Career Center team to ensure the program aligns with the unique needs of student-athletes and provides the necessary resources for their career development.
+ Contribute to the creation of materials, guides, or programs that promote career readiness and alumni engagement.
+ **Career Coaching:**
+ Provide career development and job search counseling to University of Michigan student-athletes and alumni in both individual and group settings, including decided and undecided students
+ Serve as a liaison providing career coaching and outreach to coaches and staff
+ Conduct regular outreach efforts, including workshops and presentations to current student-athletes
+ Educate student-athletes on all employment and internship opportunities relating to their major, year, and interests
+ Deliver career coaching services through a range of approaches, including individual, drop-in, and group appointments, workshops, and other programs
**Required Qualifications***
+ Bachelor's degree required.
+ 1-3 years of related experience.
+ Proficiency in managing platforms like career networks or alumni engagement tools (such as the PeopleGrove platform or similar online community tools).
+ Experience in resume writing, cover letters and developing personal statements.
+ Ability to work 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary to support events or alumni engagements.
+ High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Previous work in using social media and networking platforms (such as LinkedIn) to conduct outreach, post content, and engage with alumni or professional contacts.
+ Background in compiling and analyzing data to create reports or dashboards that inform decision-making and guide strategy development.
