We challenge ourselves to engage in open dialogue, active listening, and empathic learning. **PURPOSE** **The Assistant Director plays a critical role supporting the financial planning and budgeting functions within HFS. This position provides leadership to the Financial Planning & Analysis team. This team is integral to informing HFS leadership on financial strategy and decision making. Reporting to the CFO, t** **his role will partner closely to provide insights that drive business decisions and long-term financial health.** **RESPONSIBILITIES** **Budgeting/Planning Development** + Leads the development and management of the annual operating budgets for housing, residential food, retail food and administration. + Oversees the development, and maintenance of the long-range financial plan for the Housing and Dining System + Reviews and monitors capital expenditure budgets. + Participates in presentations to student groups on proposed budgets and rate increases + Prescribes methods and procedures to be followed in financial planning and budgeting + Develops and manages annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial plans. **Analysis and Reporting** + Collaborating with the CFO, develops and provides data appropriate for leadership decision-making to ensure that all budgetary and bond covenant requirements are met. Monitors compliance with the Housing and Dining system bond resolutions + Observes the performance and financial results of operating units and recommend needed improvements + Conducts specialized projects and studies in support of the Department’s operational units to include research, analyses, report writing and presentation + Leads others in financial studies, financial analyses and report preparation + Analyzes reports prepared by others in the University and Department and evaluate their impact on the Department + Oversees and participate in the development of analytical models + Builds and maintains complex financial models to support strategic initiatives. + Monitors actual performance against forecasts and explain variances. + Builds and maintain complex financial models to support strategic initiatives. + Conducts scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate business risks and opportunities. + Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports and dashboards for senior leadership. + Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights. **Collaboration** + Collaborates with business units to align financial goals with operational strategies. + Works in support of accounting, operations, and executive teams. **Team Leadership** + Supervises and mentors the FP&A team, fostering a high-performance culture + Fosters a culture of continuous learning and data-driven decision-making **Other** + Leverages technology and tools (e.g., ERP systems, BI tools) for automation and insights. + Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance forecasting accuracy and efficiency + Participates in or conduct special projects as assigned + Performs other duties as required to support departmental goals and values **POSITION COMPLEXITIES** Scope of HFS financial activities and the evolving financial environment. **IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY** Ensures accurate financial reporting that informs high impact decisions related to HFS’ long-range financial plan. **WORKING CONDITIONS** -Maintains regular office hours Monday through Friday with up to two days remote work. -Attendance may be required for special events. **SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES** Up to 3 FTE of Financial Analysts **REPORTS TO** Chief Financial Officer **QUALIFICATIONS** **Requirements** Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or equivalent and five years of experience that demonstrates: + Experience in financial planning and analysis + Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities + Excellent administrative, financial, organizational and problem-solving skills + Success assimilating regulations, rules, policies and laws + Success working with cross-functional teams both as a leader and a member + Innovative thinking in terms of planning strategies + Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, development-oriented environment + Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines + Commitment to continuous improvement of business operations + Excellent communication and presentation skills. + Experience using forward-thinking to develop innovative business solutions while ensuring the integrity of the day-to-day operations + Successful supervision of staff and change management + Strong financial modeling and analytical skills. + Proficiency in Excel, ERP systems, and BI tools + Excellent communication and presentation skills. + Experience leading or mentoring a team Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. **Desired** + Master’s degree in business administration, economics or the equivalent. + Certifications in Public Accounting (CPA), Financial Planning, or related fields + Experience using budget and financial systems (e.g., Workday, Questica, and Adaptive) **CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT** A satisfactory outcome from the reference check process is required prior to hire. **Compensation, Benefits and Position Details** **Pay Range Minimum:** $120,672.00 annual **Pay Range Maximum:** $120,672.00 annual **Other Compensation:** - **Benefits:** For information about benefits for this position, visit https://www.washington.edu/jobs/benefits-for-uw-staff/ **Shift:** First Shift (United States of America) **Temporary or Regular?** This is a regular position **FTE (Full-Time Equivalent):** 100.00% **Union/Bargaining Unit:** Not Applicable **About the UW** Working at the University of Washington provides a unique opportunity to change lives – on our campuses, in our state and around the world.
