Position Overview
This role serves as the primary media contact for three of the following sports: volleyball, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, cross country and track & field. Duties include social media management, gameday coverage for home and away events, website content and reporting at the league and national level. Position will also assist with gameday duties surrounding the men’s basketball program. This position is founded on promoting Marquette University and its students through the athletics programs of NCAA Division I affiliated sports.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Primary media contact for three of the following sports: women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, cross country, volleyball, women’s lacrosse and track & field. Duties include social media management, gameday coverage for home and away events, website content and reporting at the league and national level. Media responsibilities include press releases, web stories, digital broadcasts, journalists, influencers, and sports personalities.
2. Assist with the communications/gameday tasks associated with the nationally recognized men’s basketball program.
3. Play a lead role in the promotion of the University and the Athletics Department, especially through social media. Assist with coverage of non-primary assigned sports.
4. Responsible for basic and travel-related purchases and for maintaining appropriate documentation.
5. Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
A minimum of 2 years of related media relations experience.
Extensive proficiency with desktop publishing including: InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite.
Outstanding editing, writing and verbal skills.
Working knowledge and experience with NCAA approved statistical procedures for assigned sports.
Working knowledge and experience with Genius Systems.
Working knowledge and experience with Sidearm (website editing system).
Potential for travel and working night and weekends is expected.
The position will work outdoors and may work during inclement weather
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Prior experience in Athletics Communications, especially at Division I level preferred.
Experience gathering/editing and posting social media content.
